The Wisdom of Kabbalah

Quotes of prominent Kabbalists

Buying love

“We must know that love is bought through actions. By giving presents to one’s friend, each gift is like an arrow and a bullet, making holes in one’s friend’s heart. And even though one’s friend’s heart is like a stone, still, each bullet makes a hole. And from the accumulation of holes, a hollow is made, and the love of the giver enters that hollow. And the warmth of the love draws to it one’s friend’s sparks of love, and then from the two loves, a clothing of love is made, and this clothing covers them both.”

Rabbi Baruch Ashlag, Dargot HaSulam (Steps of the Ladder), Part 1, article no. 776

Today 8th Av 5769 Little Mitzvos

Today 8th Av, 5769 – “Little Mitzvos

Little Mitzvos Org

You may think, how does one little Mitzvo help . . .

Our times are calling out to us to do Teshuva, but it’s too hard for us to change our lives. Even when we try, we end up reverting back to nothing, everything as was. We MUST show HaShem that we are seeing the signs and that it means something to us.

In this way, when HaShem asks what did we did, we can reply “I took this on…”

You must not consider this “Little Mitzvos” as a replacement for the Shulchan Oruch – you must continue learning Halochos via mainstream Seforim and with Shiurim.

Tefila Bi’urei Tefila 8th Av 5769

Tefila – Bi’urei Tefila – 8th Av, 5769

RevachL'Neshama

Will Moshiach Come Before Or After The Building Of The Bais HaMikdash?

“ViLirushalayim Ircha BiRachamim Tashuv” In Shmoneh Esrei we say a special Bracha davening for Hashem to rebuild Yerushalayim. In this bracha we ask Hashem “ViChisei Dovid Miheira Lisocha Tachin” that Hashem should restore the throne of Dovid in Yerushalayim. Why do we ask for this in the bracha for Yerushalayim and then right after we daven for this in its very own bracha of Es Tzemach Dovid?

The Talilei Oros brings from the Ein Eliyahu that there are two ways the future Geula will unfold. If we are not worthy then first we will rebuild Yerushalayim and the Bais HaMikdash and only after that will the Malchus Bais Dovid return. If however we are worthy then Moshiach Ben Dovid will come even before the rebuilding of Yerushalayim and the Bais HaMikdash.

In the bracha of Yerushalayim we ask Hashem to rebuild it and then restore the kingdom of Bais Dovid. In the next bracha of Es Tzemach Dovid we ask Hashem to bring Dovid right away even if the Bais HaMikdash is not yet rebuilt.

Zechiras Miriam

Stop Loshon Hora
Stop Loshon Hora

Last Chance To Save Yerushalayim

Chazal say (Bava Metzia 30b) that Yerushalayim was destroyed because they upheld the law of the Torah. The gemara explains this shocking statement by saying that it means that they followed the law exactly as prescribed and did not look beyond the strict judgment to find a settlement amicable to both sides.

The Chofetz Chaim (Shaar HaZechira 2) asks that Chazal enumerated several aveiros that Klal Yisroel did that caused the Churban. That is inconsistent with this gemara. He answers that, indeed because of those aveiros the Churban was warranted. However that was the strict Din. Hashem can act Lifnim Mishuras HaDin, with tolerance beyond what the strict din calls for. However this is only if the people act Lifnim Mishuras HaDin as well. Since they didn’t do so and instead dispensed judgment without any mercy, Hashem had no choice but bring upon them the full force of judgment.

If you are Mivater and look past your “rights” and show mercy to someone who offends you in any way, Bais Din Shel Ma’ala will do the same for you. Unless you are Tzaddik Gamur, it sounds like a very good deal!

“Zachor Eis Asher Asa Hashem L’Miriam BaDerech B’Tzaischem MiMitzrayim”

The Ramban and other Rishonim count, among the Mitzvos Aseh Min HaTorah, the mitzva of remembering and saying with your mouth each day what Hashem did to Miriam when she spoke about her brother Moshe. The Chofetz Chaim in Shaar Tvunah Perek 12 says that being Mikayem this mitzva can save you from the aveira of Lashon Hara. More than just saying the pasuk, says the Chofetz Chaim, one must think about the incident in order for it to have its intended effect.

The Daily Shmiras Ainayim Chizuk 8th Av 5769

The Daily Shmiras Ainayim Chizuk – 8th Av, 5769

GuardUrEyes

GuardUrEyes

A website for Jews struggling to maintain their moral purity in today’s world

Why is Sexual purity so important in Judaism? Our sages called Shmiras Habris “Yesod”, meaning “Foundation”. The foundation of a building is “underground” and no one sees it, yet it holds up the entire building! Shmiras Habris is the hidden part of a Jew, it’s the real you. If the foundation of a Jew is weak, his whole spiritual structure is fragile and in grave danger of collapse. At guardureyes.com we are finally joining together, for ourselves and for all future generations, to strengthen the foundations of our people!

There is a lot of material out there on the subject of guarding the eyes and the Bris, but sometimes “too much” is overwhelming.
A little bit each day is just right, to be able to read, digest and apply it to our lives.

The booklet “Windows to the Soul” by R’ Zvi Miller of the Salant foundation, is a MAN’S PRACTICAL GUIDE TO MASTERING HIS EYES. (Right click the link and choose “Save Target/Link As” to save the PDF booklet to your computer). To subscribe to eMussar, the daily lessons of the Salant Foundation, send email to salant@netvision.net.il

The Zohar compares this world to a churning ocean and the body of a man to a ship in the sea. Therefore, man requires knowledge in order to guide himself on a straight course, avoiding mishap and losing his way. The ocean of life roars fearfully and continuously. The winds of challenge blow and the negative impulse rips about like a tornado with unimaginable force. All of life comprises great and endless tests, which can easily capsize the ship and sink it into the murky, nethermost depths.

Yirat Shamayim and the study of Mussar will prevent the body from sinking into the miry depths of desire and corrupt character traits.
(Rabbi Yitzchak Blazer, Ohr Yisrael)

Today’s Shmiras Ainayim Chizuk

Perform the Mitzvot With Joy!
(Part 1)

The Arizal revealed that his great happiness in serving Hashem was the genesis of all the lofty spiritual levels he attained and the esoteric knowledge that he received.

“How can we utilize the various ideas that we learned to serve Hashem with great joy?”

Over the past posts, we have completed the guidebook “Windows to the Soul“. Now we have the wisdom, tools, and confidence to master our eyes.

The Ramchal wrote in Mesilat Yesharim (Introduction): The benefit of this book is not gained by reading it one time, for it is possible that the reader won’t find many ideas that he didn’t already know. Rather the benefit from the book is gleaned from review and consistent study. In this way, the study of the book will remind him of concepts that are naturally forgotten by people. And he will remember his obligations which may have eluded him.”

Mastery of the eyes requires reviewing the laws and consistent study of the pertinent topics. Therefore, keep this PDF hand-book available and go through it periodically. Now that you know much of the ideas, you might prefer to read it straight through in a few sittings. Or perhaps, scroll to key parts that address the specific issues at hand.

In addition, you can print out the hand-book and study it with a partner or ask your Rabbi to give a class on Shmirat Einayim, using the sources of his choice.

Daily Writings on Kabbalah and Torah – 8th Av, 5769

True Kabbalah org

Everyone has different abilities depending on the tribe they represent. Let us all unify and work together in the battle against the Sitra Acher.

WISDOM CAN ONLY BE LOWERED TO A CERTAIN POINT – IF YOU DON’T UNDERSTAND IT READ IT OVER TWO THREE TIMES AND THINK ABOUT IT

Regarding what happens when one reaches the end of physical space

–  Know that there are different universes: Asiyah, Yitzirah, Biriyah, and Azilut.
–  The physical world is in the lower parts of Asiyah.
–  When one travels to the end of physical space, meaning after all stars and Galaxies he would be warped to a higher dimension.
–  This would happen gradually as he got closer.
–  Getting to this point would take millions of light years. In meditations one can get there very fast.
–  There are parts of the soul that stretch through all the worlds. If one can elevate his conscious awareness to this point, he can then interact with it.

Translated by Avraham Greenbaum

KNOWING G-D – A taste of the world to come

When a person knows that everything that happens to him is for his own good, this is a foretaste of the world to come. To be serene and patient regardless of what you encounter in life is the highest level of knowledge and understanding of G-d. Have faith that everything is for your ultimate good.

From our Sages on the Parshah

Chabad org

From our Sages on the Parshah
Parshah: Va’etchanan Verses: Deuteronomy 3:23-7:11

You shall bind them for a sign upon your arm, and they shall be as tefillin between your eyes (Deuteronomy 6:8)

Torah law prescribes that we first tie the hand-tefillin on our arms, and then set the head-tefillin upon our heads — as derived from the order in which they are commanded in the above verse.

Our sages tell us that G-d, too, wears tefillin, and that His tefillin are inscribed with the verse “Who is like Your people Israel, the one nation on earth” (as our tefillin are inscribed with verses proclaiming His oneness). There are “head-Jews” — the scholars and thinkers, and “hand-Jews” — the doers. Both are precious to G-d; both are integral to our role as His “one nation on earth.” But when G-d ties His “tefillin” to affirm His bond with His people, He ties his hand-tefillin first, cherishing the simple deed above all else.

Perek Shira – 8th Av, 5769

Perek Shira

Perek Shira: Rav Chaim Kanievsky – The Desert Is Hashem’s Showcase

The desert is hot, dry, and lifeless. Yet it takes up around one third of the Earth’s land surface. Why did Hashem make a world with so much “dead space”? Rav Chaim Kanievsky says that Hashem made the desert because from here we can understand that in the future Hashem will make the desert bloom. Obviously if Hashem made it, it will not stay barren forever.

The Radak says that Eretz Yisroel, Yerushalayim, and the Bais HaMikdash in their destruction are like the desert. They one time all bloomed, as the rain or Shefa from Hashem poured down on the world through this wonderful place. As the rain from Shamayim nourished our gashmiyos and ruchniyos, we grew to become big strong trees reaching the Shamayim with our avodah.

The desert says, “Yisusum Midbar V’tzia V’Sagel Arava V’Sifrach K’Chavatzeles”, the wilderness and the parched land shall be glad, and the desert shall rejoice and blossom as the rose (Yeshaya 35:1). Desert plants can survive through the harsh desert climate, but they do not grow very tall. The day will yet come when the Bais HaMikdash will once again bring the rains down on our dried out neshamos, which have managed to survive all these years on a few drops of rain. When that happens, Am Yisroel will once again stand tall, covering the land and reaching the heavens. We will be Hashem’s showcase.

Tikun Habris – 8th, 5769

Tikun Habris is the most important topic to discuss in this low generation, and no one is dealing with it.

If you are Jewish then you are part of the Holy nation. Have mercy on your holy soul and stop blemishing it with the sin of wasting seed. Take heed of what the kabbalah says and stop committing this sin of wasting seed.

Rebbe Nachman of Breslev on Shmiras Habris

These are only the basic references about Tikun Hbris. The torahs have a lot more about this topic. We strongly suggest that everyone learn Likutay Maharan.

Someone who is Pogem Hbris, he flaws his voice. Yackov who was very careful to be Shomer Hbris merited to attain a high level of voice. It therefore says, “The voice, is the voice of Yackov.”

DIARY
5-11 Av 5769
25 July-1 August 2009

Saturday night-Sunday 25-26 July / 5 Av
Yahrzeit of Rabbi Yitzchak Luria, the "ARI" (1534-72), outstanding Safed kabbalist and source of all the teachings in Eitz Chayim, "The Tree of Life", and numerous other volumes written down by his student Rabbi Chaim Vital. People in Israel flock to the ARI’s gravesite in the old cemetery of Safed.
Today is also the Yahrzeit of Rabbi Michel Dorfman (1913-2006), guardian of Rabbi Nachman’s grave during the post-World War II Communist regime, leading elder of the Breslover Chassidim and builder of the new Kloyz (synagogue) in Uman.

Wednesday 29 July / 8 Av
Eve of Tisha B’Av

The mourning for the Temple during the Nine Days intensifies on the afternoon of the eve of the fast of Tisha B’Av. Only those areas of Torah that are permitted on Tisha B’Av may be studied this afternoon, i.e. the laws of mourning, passages of reproof in Jeremiah, Job, etc. and works of Mussar and Chassidut that arouse us to Teshuvah.
The fast of Tisha B’Av commences with the setting of the sun this afternoon. Shortly before the commencement of the fast, it is customary to eat the somber Seudah Hamafseket, "separation meal", with bread dipped in ashes and no more than one cooked dish, usually a hard boiled egg (that may be supplemented by uncooked fruits, vegetables, etc.). No meat or wine are consumed. All the stringencies of the fast of Tisha B’Av are observed from sunset, when leather footwear is removed as one of the signs of mourning.

Full information about Tisha B’Av observances and historical background is available here.

Wednesday night-Thursday 29-30 July / 9 Av
Fast of Tisha B’Av
The Fast of Tisha B’Av commemorates (1-2) The destruction of the First and Second Temples; (3) The decree that the generation of the wilderness who listened to the evil report of the spies would not enter the Land of Israel; (4) Capture of the city of Beitar after the failure of Bar Kochba’s rebellion; (5) Plowing of Jerusalem by the Romans. The expulsions of the Jews from England (1290) and Spain in 1492 as well as many other tragedies also took place on Tisha B’Av.

Besides abstaining from eating and drinking, full mourning is observed today, including sitting on low chairs or mats on the floor and abstaining from washing, annointing, wearing leather shoes and marital relations.
After the evening service, Megillat Eichah (Lamentations) is read, followed by the recital of Kinot, mournful dirges about the destruction of the Temple and other tragedies in the history of the people of Israel.
Following the morning
Torah reading, lengthy Kinot are recited followed by the reading of Eichah. This takes up most of the morning until midday. Many visit Jewish cemeteries on Tisha B’Av to stir the souls of the dead to entreat for mercy for us.

The fast ends after nightfall (Tzeit Hakochavim, appearance of the stars) on Thursday night. It is customary to recite Kiddush Levanah, "Sanctification of the Moon" after the evening service after end of the fast.

Friday 31 July / 10 Av
Because today is the eve of Shabbat, the prohibitions against laundering, washing and haircuts that normally apply until midday on 10 Av (since the fire that engulfed the Temple on 9 Av continued burning until the 10th) are lifted this morning to enable us to make our preparations for Shabbat.
Today is the anniversary of the birth and death of Issachar, son of Jacob and Leah.

Torah reading: Deuteronomy 3:23-7:11; Haftara: Isaiah 40:1–26, "Comfort ye (nachamu), my people…", first of the Seven Haftarot of Consolation read between Tisha BeAv and Rosh Hashanah.

On Saturday night, after the end of Shabbat Nachamu — announcing the coming redemption — it is customary for those in the environs of Haifa, Israel to visit the Cave of Elijah on Mount Carmel.

Azamra means “I will sing” (Psalms 146:2)

“And the way to sing the song of joy is by seeking the good in all people, especially in ourselves. Each good point is one more note in the song of life!”

Today 7th Av, 5769 – eMussar Lesson –
The Miracle of Existence

AROUND THE SHABBOS TABLE\MASSEI

The Torah usually doesn’t waste words. If, so what is the significance of the Torah listing the names of the remote places that the People of Israel passed on their 40 year trek through the desert?

One might think that we survived in the desert by staying close to cities, where we could purchase food supplies and water. However, the locations show that the route took us right through the heart of the blazing desert. There was no Hilton, market, or even farmland for miles and miles.

There is only one way to survive in the desert with no food, water, or protection. That is, by a constant miracle! For forty years, HaShem provided us with ample food, water, clothing, and shade. He revealed that every second of life – and all the provisions at our disposal – are gifts from HaShem.

While HaShem often “hides Himself” through nature; the sprouting of vegetation from the earth is no less miraculous than the manna that came from Heaven! Once we learn the secret that HaShem loves the People of Israel like His beloved child, we know for certain that He will take care of us and our needs.

Happiness is clarity of HaShem’s loving-kindness for each person. The more we focus on His love and appreciate His constant, incomparable kindness, the happier we will be. A child instinctively feels exuberant about his parents, because he knows how much they love him.

So too, when we are aware that HaShem is our Creator, we will be exuberant. Every second He surrounds us with love, care, and kindness; granting us health, life, understanding, air, tasty food, family and friends, a soul, the wisdom of the holy Torah, delicious desserts, sweet fruits, etc.

The only thing He asks of us is to reflect on His love until we experience genuine, deep-seated happiness and joy.

Interacting with others Quote

Hold Back

We should hold back from stinging those who hurt us. The rift we create can last forever. Instead, we should stay polite. We may yet count these people as our closest friends.
