About Life Quote

A Garden

Life is like a garden. The more effort we put into it, the more beautifully it grows. But when we leave it, weeds and thorns overrun it.
Where do we get the seeds — ideas and inspiration to make our garden flourish? We need to look to the One who is the landscaping artist of it all.

DIVINE LIGHT – 25th Tammuz, 5769

DIVINE LIGHT – 18th Tammuz, 5769

The Baal Shem Tov Times

The Mystical Light of the Baal Shem Tov

Section 18.

The following story was told many times by the Alter Rebbe, who heard it from his Rebbe, the Mezritcher Maggid.

Once, the Baal Shem Tov was teaching the Chevraya Kadisha (his inner circle of followers) intimate secrets of the Torah that had never before been heard in this world before. These secrets could not even be found in any of the writings of the early mekubolim (Masters of Kabbalah) or even the Arizal.

And all the Baal Shem Tov’s disciples were Torah giants in their own right, especially the eminent Reb Dov Ber. Even before coming to the Baal Shem Tov, Reb Dov Ber was famous for having studied and reviewed every available book of Torah, both of revealed knowledge and mystical thought, one hundred and one times.

Upon this occasion, Reb Dov Ber heard previously unknown teachings about such deep concepts of Torah that they utterly confused him. As he thought about the Baal Shem Tov’s ability to transmit such teachings, he found it difficult to believe that a soul enclothed in flesh and blood could know such hidden thoughts, probably beyond even the grasp of the angels themselves. He was seized with the thought that the voice that spoke from the mouth of the Baal Shem Tov came directly from his disembodied soul. At the same time, several of the other disciples were so mesmerized by these teachings that they finally were compelled to touch the Baal Shem’s hand to see if it was tangible.

The HEART OF PRAYER – 25th Tammuz, 5769

THE HEART OF PRAYER – 25th Tammuz, 5769

The Baal Shem Tov Times

The Baal Shem Tov’s Teachings on Prayer

4.a(5) Every word, gesture, step and action of a person makes its mark Above.

The Baal Shem Tov taught:

A person’s many sins keep them from serving G-d. In their low state, they cannot believe that their prayers and Torah study draw Divine blessings into all the worlds, and that even the angels are nourished by their Torah and prayer. Were they to believe that, they would serve G-d with joy and fear, and would recite each letter and word of prayer properly. They would remember what it says: “When you lie between the sefasoyim (sheepfolds)” (Psalms 68:14); that is, G-d watches a person’s lips (sefasayim), and kisses them when they say words of Torah and prayer in reverence and love. Who would not be filled with fear and dread upon realizing that the great and awesome King watches the lips of even a person who is “despised and forsaken of men” (Isaiah 53:3)?

Our Sages have said: “The humility of Rabbi Zechariah caused the destruction of the Temple.” A person should realize that they are a “ladder standing upon the earth, with his head reaching Heaven” (Genesis 28:12), and that their every word, gesture, step and action makes its mark Above. Then, they will make sure that their deeds are all for the sake of G-d. But when they think, “Am I really significant enough to damage or repair that which is Above and below? Are all my deeds really recorded in heaven?” they will feel unaccountable for their actions, thoughts and speech saying, “I will have peace” (Deuteronomy 29:18). But this is not true; for through our good deeds, we actually cling to G-d. As it is written: “You shall go in His ways” (Deuteronomy 29:9). That is, our compassionate actions below arouse the attribute of compassion in all the worlds above.

Thus, I interpreted the phrase: “Know what is above from you,” as meaning “know that what is Above is from you yourself, from the various emotions that you feel.”
Toldos Yaakov Yosef, p. 181c-d

Today 25th Tammuz, 5769 – “Little Mitzvos

Little Mitzvos Org

You may think, how does one little Mitzvo help . . .

Our times are calling out to us to do Teshuva, but it’s too hard for us to change our lives. Even when we try, we end up reverting back to nothing, everything as was. We MUST show HaShem that we are seeing the signs and that it means something to us.

In this way, when HaShem asks what did we did, we can reply “I took this on…”

You must not consider this “Little Mitzvos” as a replacement for the Shulchan Oruch – you must continue learning Halochos via mainstream Seforim and with Shiurim.

6 Nisim That Happened When Pinchos Killed Zimri

Pinchos took on a daring and courageous act when he broke past the barrier of people surrounding Zimri’s tent and went in to kill him. The Gemara in Sanhedrin lists 6 miracles that happened during this dangerous mission according to Rav Yochanan.

1.   Zimri didn’t separate from Kosbi when Pinchos came. Had he done that Pinchos would not have been permitted to kill him.
2.   Zimri did scream out to the people around the tent for help.
3.   Pinchos was able to spear them in way that caught them in the act so that no one would say Pinchos acted to settle on old score.
4.   Kosbi and Zimri remained in place on the spear for all of Bnei Yisroel to see.
5.   A Malach raised the door post so that Pinchos can walk out with the spear upright so they would remain in place.
6.   A Malach came to start a plague in order the occupy the people of Shevet Shimon so they wouldn’t have the frame of mind to go after pinchos and kill him.

Reb Yeruchom of Mir – A Game Of Cat and Mouse

Reb Yeruchom says (Da’as Torah Cheilek 4) if one thinks about what he does by saying Lashon Hara, he would be appalled. It is like taking your friend in your mouth and crushing him, chewing him to pieces and draining him of his blood. It is no better than a cat eating a mouse. I on the other hand, says Reb Yeruchom, think that a cat eating a mouse is a much more civilized act than a person speaking Lashon Hara. (B’Yad HaLashon pg 286)

“Zachor Eis Asher Asa Hashem L’Miriam BaDerech B’Tzaischem MiMitzrayim”

The Ramban and other Rishonim count, among the Mitzvos Aseh Min HaTorah, the mitzva of remembering and saying with your mouth each day what Hashem did to Miriam when she spoke about her brother Moshe. The Chofetz Chaim in Shaar Tvunah Perek 12 says that being Mikayem this mitzva can save you from the aveira of Lashon Hara. More than just saying the pasuk, says the Chofetz Chaim, one must think about the incident in order for it to have its intended effect.

The Daily Shmiras Ainayim Chizuk – 25th Tammuz, 5769

GuardUrEyes

GuardUrEyes

A website for Jews struggling to maintain their moral purity in today’s world

Why is Sexual purity so important in Judaism? Our sages called Shmiras Habris “Yesod”, meaning “Foundation”. The foundation of a building is “underground” and no one sees it, yet it holds up the entire building! Shmiras Habris is the hidden part of a Jew, it’s the real you. If the foundation of a Jew is weak, his whole spiritual structure is fragile and in grave danger of collapse. At guardureyes.com we are finally joining together, for ourselves and for all future generations, to strengthen the foundations of our people!

There is a lot of material out there on the subject of guarding the eyes and the Bris, but sometimes “too much” is overwhelming.
A little bit each day is just right, to be able to read, digest and apply it to our lives.

The booklet “Windows to the Soul” by R’ Zvi Miller of the Salant foundation, is a MAN’S PRACTICAL GUIDE TO MASTERING HIS EYES. (Right click the link and choose “Save Target/Link As” to save the PDF booklet to your computer). To subscribe to eMussar, the daily lessons of the Salant Foundation, send email to salant@netvision.net.il

The Zohar compares this world to a churning ocean and the body of a man to a ship in the sea. Therefore, man requires knowledge in order to guide himself on a straight course, avoiding mishap and losing his way. The ocean of life roars fearfully and continuously. The winds of challenge blow and the negative impulse rips about like a tornado with unimaginable force. All of life comprises great and endless tests, which can easily capsize the ship and sink it into the murky, nethermost depths.

Yirat Shamayim and the study of Mussar will prevent the body from sinking into the miry depths of desire and corrupt character traits.
(Rabbi Yitzchak Blazer, Ohr Yisrael)

Today’s Shmiras Ainayim Chizuk

Make a Spiritual Accounting

Rav Yisrael teaches us two other techniques for increasing our awareness of Hashem so we can effectively control our behavior. The first method is “Searching for the Truth.”

“We should endeavor to place the truth before us and use purity as a lamp for our feet. Therefore, we must look deeply into our deeds and the fruits of our thoughts.”
(Ohr Yisrael, Letter 4)

“A person who contemplates his path in this world will merit seeing the deliverance of Hashem”.
(Moad Katan 5a)

“That sounds like a good thing to do but truthfully, I’m too busy to take the time”.

When we were slaves in Egypt, Pharaoh was concerned that we would rebel and overthrow his rulership. In order to prevent us from organizing a rebellion, he placed upon us a heavy and continuous workload, as we find in the verse (Shemos 5:9): “Intensify the burdens of the people.” That way we wouldn’t have a spare minute to create a strategy.

Just as Pharaoh denied us time for reflection and action, the fast pace of modern life gives us little time to contemplate our conduct. Even if we have learned the laws regulating our eyes, it’s possible that we may have grown lax concerning some of the laws.

VISUAL MISJUDGMENTS

The Ramchal in his Mesilat Yesharim (Chapter 3) explains that the darkness of night causes two types of visual misjudgments:

(1)   We cannot see a stumbling block in our path.
(2)   We see something and imagine it to be something else. For instance, we see a tree and imagine it to be a man.

The nature of this world also causes two types of misperceptions:

(1)   We may fail to realize that a certain behavior conflicts with Halachah.
(2)   We rationalize doing an aveira by insisting that it is a Mitzvah.

For example, even though we know we’re prohibited from looking at a woman who is dressed immodestly, we may not realize that includes the female teller in the bank. After all, if we close our eyes, how can we conduct our business? So we decide that the prohibition does not apply in this case or that it’s even a Mitzvah to look at her because it’s necessary in order to accomplish our mission.

Regarding the use of a tree as an Asherah

–   During the age of Bais Rishon (first commonwealth) many people worshiped Asherias.
–   Asheria was a tree used to conduct impure energy.
The meaning of this is as follows: plant is the middle level, it has a life but no living spirit.
–   It is therefore like a blank cartridge, certain energies can be channeled through it.

Azamra org - Torah for Our Time

A treasury of sayings, teachings, parables and stories by the outstanding Chassidic sage, mystic and visionary, Rabbi Nachman of Breslov (1772-1810), whose message of faith, hope, courage, simplicity and joy is essential to each one of us and essential to the whole world.

Translated by Avraham Greenbaum

KNOWING G-D

It is impossible to explain to someone else how you personally perceive G-d’s greatness. You can’t even explain it to yourself from one day to the next. Tomorrow you will not be able to recapture completely the understanding you had today.

It is impossible to describe one’s perceptions of G-d. They are so lofty – higher than high! They cannot be put into words.

Sichot Haran #1

Rabbi Nachman of Breslov
“It is a great mitzvah to be happy.”

Perek Shira

Perek Shira: What Is Gehinom Singing About?

The mystery of the world is, why do some people have it so good and some live miserable lives? All the studies in the world cannot find a correlation to properly solve this enigma. Hashem is infinitely wise and we can’t begin to fathom how he runs the world. Chazal however reveal to us, every now and then, little nuggets of wisdom that tell us something about how Hashem runs the world.

Koheles tells us (5:12) “Oisher Shomur L’B’Alav L’Ra’asoi” wealth is saved for its owner, for his detriment. The Baalei Mussar say that when someone has it good he should start worrying. Maybe, just maybe Hashem is rewarding him in this world for a Mitzva he did in order to finish off his reward so that he can punish him in the next world. Anytime you have it very good you should wonder what you are giving up in the eternal world for this passing earthly pleasure.

With this the Shiras Ariel (Rav Ariel Hodaya) explains the song of Gehinom. “Ki Hisbiya Nefesh Shokeika, V’Nefesh R’eiva Milei Tov”, for he satisfies the longing soul, and fills the hungry soul with goodness. This means Hashem satisfies the material desires of the wicked by rewarding them in this world for the good they have done. Why is this something for Gehinom to sing about? Because after this “wonderful” life, the person’s next destination is an extended stay at the Gehinom Inn.

Tikun Habris – 25th Tammuz, 5769

Tikun Habris – 25th Tammuz, 5769

True Kabbalah org

Tikun Habris is the most important topic to discuss in this low generation, and no one is dealing with it.

If you are Jewish then you are part of the Holy nation. Have mercy on your holy soul and stop blemishing it with the sin of wasting seed. Take heed of what the kabbalah says and stop committing this sin of wasting seed.

Rebbe Nachman of Breslev on Shmiras Habris

These are only the basic references about Tikun Hbris. The torahs have a lot more about this topic. We strongly suggest that everyone learn Likutay Maharan.

One who is not Shomer Hbris damages the 39 divine lights. He draws upon himself the load of earning a living, which are the 39 labors. This is taught in the Zohar, “One who throws bread crumbs on the floor is chased by poverty, certainly this happens to one who threw down crumbs of his brain.”

[Likutay 1 Torah 11]

A Wonderous Segulah to rectify oneself and to rectify Nefesh Ruach and Neshama. Culled from the Holy ARIZALs works to be said every day after prayers.

Tikun Mem Ches from the Tikunei Zohar has the Segulah to bring that which is precious and holy out of what has fallen into spiritual darkness and to rectify the sins related to the Bris Kodesh.

Whomever says it will be worthy of many wonderous things relating to body and soul.

Rav Moshe Kordevero’s 5 Potent Medicines For Humility

Rav Moshe Kordevero in the Tomer Devora (Perek 2) says that humility is the key to all good Middos. Humility he says means considering yourself “Ayin”, nothing. Once you achieve this all other Middos will fall into place automatically. This is not easy to achieve as we all suffer from the disease of ego to a degree.

The Ramak suggests 5 medicines that a person can take to slowly rid himself of this devastating disease.

1.  Run away from Kavod – If people shower you with honor you will get used to it and crave it. Then it will be very hard to extricate your self from gaava. You must run from Kavod at all costs.

2.  Focus on Your Weaknesses – Just because people honor you for what they think makes you great, you still know the truth. Don’t delude yourself just because the people are mistaken. Be honest with yourself and know the truth about all your shortcomings. If they knew these things would they still honor you? Probably not so get over it.

3.  Appreciate Disgrace – Think about all your aveiros and what you really deserve from Hashem. When you are humiliated or disgraced be happy. It is a lot easier way to be punished than getting sick, losing your money, or having someone close to you die. Better to suffer shame than real problems.

The Ramak then brings two more thoughts that he says will help but are not as effective as the first three.

4.  Respect All Creations – If you embarrass even the smallest most insignificant creation it is a disgrace to its Creator, Hashem. If Hashem created something he must be very pleased with it or he would have done it. How dare a person belittle it.

5.  Fill Your Heart With Love of Every Man – Even love Reshaim. Daven that they should do tshuva. When you see a disheveled vagrant rather than loathe him, ask yourself what is the difference between him and I, a little money? Don’t look at peoples bad traits only their good ones.
