The Wisdom of Kabbalah – 27th Tevet, 5771

Kabbalah for the Student

Kabbalists Write about the Wisdom of Kabbalah.

I write only to evoke the hearts of disciples of sages to engage in the study of the internality of the Torah and to study the Holy Zohar as diligently as the Mishnah and the Gemarah. Yet, not all are ready for it by the nature of their souls. Hence, one who is not capable, and whose heart is keen, should certainly prolong the quip in Mishnah and Gemarah. But one who is capable of delving in the wisdom of Kabbalah, should dedicate the greater part of his study to know his Maker.

Igrot (Letters), Vol. 1, 41-42

The Power Of The Book Of Zohar

Just reading The Zohar brings many results; it evokes various phenomena and changes in a person. A person does not understand what he reads, but he tries to understand it, driven by his nature, even though from the point of view of Kabbalah this is not necessary at all. He may read it with the right intention or one that is not so correct.

In any case, the book works on him, influencing him so he advances. He cannot avoid feeling the changes inside. He should only keep returning to this book as often as possible, read it every chance he gets, and stay connected to it in some way.

Then he will see that this book is built in such a way that it creates for him a picture of reality parallel to his current reality, and he starts to slightly shift between them. Instead of the superficial story he imagines something beyond this reality. That is how The Zohar works inside a person, creating new qualities of perception inside him.

The Wisdom of Kabbalah – 26th Tevet, 5771

Kabbalah for the Student

Kabbalists Write about the Wisdom of Kabbalah.

Those who engage solely in the dresses of the Torah are gravely mistaken, may G-d have mercy on them. And when the Lord’s demand is abandoned and the majority of the multitude of the sages of the Torah do not know its purpose, and they consider the wisdom of the Torah with its purpose as mere addition of some quip to the laws—which, though truly sacred and precious—they will not illuminate our souls.

The Most Effective Means Of Advancement

The Book of Zohar affects a person in a special way. It’s enough for a person to read, listen, and desire to be connected, even virtually, with the group (it all could happen just to a small degree, to the extent that life allows a person to free himself for this book), and The Zohar starts developing the spiritual organ of perception in him. As it occurs, a person begins to experience changes, stages of development.

The Book of Zohar just needs to be read. It would be good to publish selected pieces in a pocket format so that a person can read it anywhere. In truth, there isn’t a more effective means for advancement than this book.

The Book of Psalms doesn’t help to advance a person spiritually. Humanity has been reading it for thousands of years. People are simply pacifying themselves.

This doesn’t in any way diminish the value of the Book of Psalms, written at the degree of the complete Malchut. After all, King David represents Malchut, the entire creation. Like all other “holy” books written by those who have attained the Creator, they carry His Light within.

However, as Baal HaSulam explains in the “Introduction to The Study of the Ten Sefirot,” the Light that Reforms, builds the property of bestowal within us is closer and more effective for us if it comes from The Book of Zohar. The Light in The Zohar is the most powerful.

Obviously, reading The Zohar must go in hand with studying the articles of Baal HaSulam and Rabash and The Study of the Ten Sefirot. Yet, The Book of Zohar should fill all of a person’s free time.

Perception of Reality

Lesson 2 of 5

Lecture running time: 25 min
Lecture Transcript (doc)
Download this Video

What is in this lesson?

  • Our five senses block us from perceiving the true, eternal reality.
  • The program that runs our five senses is called “egoism.”
  • In order to know the greater reality that surrounds us, we need to develop an additional sense, what Kabbalists call “the sixth sense.”
  • All of our thoughts and actions are motivated by the desire to receive pleasure (or, “the will to receive”).
  • We evolve individually and humanity evolves as a whole through five sets of desires: (1) food, sex, shelter; (2) wealth; (3) honor, pride, power; (4) knowledge; (5) spirituality.
  • Human nature is a will to receive (egoism) and the nature of the Creator is a will to bestow, unconditional altruism.
  • The law of equivalence of form states that we are created in order to become equivalent to the Creator, i.e. to acquire altruistic qualities.

Anthony Kosinec explains how our five senses block us from perceiving the true, eternal reality, and how we can use what Kabbalists have discovered, to break through our limitations, and achieve the complete, eternal perception of reality.

Kabbalah: A Basic Overview

Lesson 1 of 5

Lecture running time: 25 min
Lecture Transcript (doc)
Download this Video (wmv)

What is in this lesson?
  • 3 reasons why Kabbalah is called “the hidden science.”
  1. Purposeful concealment of the science by Kabbalists themselves.
  2. Kabbalists wrote all their texts in a special language: “the language of branches.”
  3. Kabbalah studies what is hidden from our inborn perception.
  • The 11 most popular misrepresentations of Kabbalah, and why Kabbalah is not any of these:

  • Jewish Mysticism
  • Religion
  • Mysticism
  • Magic
  • That you have to be Jewish to study Kabbalah
  • That you have to had mastered preliminary wisdom before studying Kabbalah
  • Holy water
  • Amulets
  • Red strings
  • A means for protection
  • The same as Eastern teachings
  • The only requirement for studying Kabbalah is a sincere desire to discover the meaning of life.
  • Kabbalah studies how our life and our world has been created, and how to achieve connection with our life’s source, the totality of reality.

Note: When you finish this entire “Your First Course in Kabbalah” series, you can continue these video lessons at Kabbalah TV, by going to the category on the right side of the page titled “Kabbalah Revealed – Full” – and starting from #6, “The Screen.”

Anthony Kosinec introduces “what Kabbalah is” and “what Kabbalah isn’t” in this overview of some of its basic concepts, and the difference between authentic Kabbalah and how Kabbalah is popularly viewed. He speaks from the perspective of “practical Kabbalah,” as taught today by Rav Michael Laitman, PhD.

Essentially, this is the process of how to reveal Kabbalah’s hidden aspect: the Upper Worlds—what is hidden behind our five senses. Kosinec explains that understanding the Kabbalistic “language of branches” is the key to starting a practical application of Kabbalah. He also puts across that a misunderstanding of this language is the reason Kabbalah has been misinterpreted in myriad ways—as religion, mysticism, magic, and many others—and that the key to start applying Kabbalah practically is to first understand that its language only describes the Upper Worlds: higher levels of consciousness completely removed from everything we receive through our five senses.

From this basis, one can begin learning what one can do in order to attain these higher levels of consciousness.

Kabbalah for the Student

Kabbalists Write about the Wisdom of Kabbalah.

The merit of contemplating the words of the Living G-d in The Book of Zohar and all that accompany it, and the words of the wisdom of truth, is immeasurable and priceless. It is especially so with the clear words of the Ari.

And even if one has not yet come to understand the heart of the matter through in-depth scrutiny, through constant engagement, the gates of Light and doors of wisdom will appear to all who walk on the path of G-d in wholeness, whose soul craves nearing the King’s Hall. Hence, blessed will be all who volunteer to engage in the wisdom for even an hour or two a day, every day. The Creator adds an act to a good thought, and it will be regarded as standing, always and everyday, in the Lord’s Court and His Abode, in the secrets of the Torah.
