ON DIFFERENCES

Once, someone read to R’ Raphael a statement that we should love non-Jews since they were created by G-d. This idea pleased him immensely.*

Joke of the day 13th Tevet 5770

Breslev Israel

During a trip from California to Indiana, it didn’t help that my connecting flight from Denver was delayed twice because of mechanical problems. Then, after we were aloft, I noticed the lights began flickering. I mentioned this to a flight attendant. “I’ll take care of it,” she said. Moments later the lights went out. Clearly she had solved the problem by turning off all the lights. A passenger across the aisle who had been watching me leaned over and said, “Whatever you do, please don’t ask about the engines.”

This coming Shabbat we complete the reading of the book of Genesis with the story of Jacob’s final blessings to his children and grandchildren before departing this life. Parents blessing their children after the Friday night prayers prior to the Shabbat evening meal should do so with special intent tonight as this week’s parshah contains the verse with which fathers customarily bless their sons, “May G-d make you like Ephraim and Menasheh” (Genesis 48:20). The customary blessing for girls, “May G-d make you like Sarah and Rebecca, Rachel and Leah” is also based on this verse.

After the completion of the synagogue Torah reading of Genesis, the congregation customarily declare: “Hazak Hazak Ve-nit-hazek: Strong! Strong! Let us be strong!”*

Hazak Hazak Ve-nit-hazek!!!

Daily Torah Quote 13th Tevet 5770

Breslev Israel
The rule is that it’s impossible to have two thoughts simultaneously! Therefore, it’s simple to drive away bad thoughts – meaning, he shouldn’t think them in the first place – he only needs to think about something else.
