eMussar – The Wisdom of Personal Growth
A daily inspirational, concise idea, with a suggested action.
AROUND THE SHABBOS TABLE\PARSHAS HA’AZEINU
HaShem assigned a distinct boundary of land to each nation. The Torah (Devarim 32:8) teaches: When the Supreme One gave the nations their inheritance, when He separated the children of man. This verse implies that each nation has distinct qualities.
In fact, we see that each land has different characteristics. The people that dwell in one place are different from those people that live in a different place. Likewise, the plants and animals that exist in one locale will not thrive in a different area.
These variations are caused by the inherent powers that HaShem implanted within each particular place. The divergent energies that emanate from the earth are custom designed to influence each specific entity. Therefore, each thing belongs to its unique place. If so, the human being, who is the ‘the crowning glory of creation’ unquestionably has a place which best facilitates his or her true growth.
The special place that is fertile ground for human beings to grow is Eretz Yisrael. Just as the spiritual resources that lie within the land of Israel engender the best esrogs in the world, so too eminently righteous, spiritual people are indigenous to the land of Israel.
The special attribute of Eretz Yisrael is that it is the place where the Shechinah dwells. Our Sages tell us that the air of Eretz Yisrael is so holy that it literally imparts life to the souls that dwell therein. The spiritual power of Eretz Yisrael engenders the extraordinary growth for the individual Jews who enter her boundaries, and is the perfect environment for Klal Yisrael to blossom.
Our holy Patriarchs knew the secret powers that lay within the land of Israel. Hence, they made great efforts to come there and live there. May we all have the merit to live in Eretz Yisrael and absorb its wondrous spiritual nourishment.
