Todays eMussar Lesson 29th Elul 5769

Today 29th Elul, 5769 – eMussar Lesson –
Special Rosh HaShanah Issue – High Inspiration

Todays eMussar Lesson

eMussar – The Wisdom of Personal Growth
A daily inspirational, concise idea, with a suggested action.

ROSH HASHANAH 5770

During the Elul prayer service, we say, “Return us HaShem, and we shall return; Renew our days as of old.” And then, “Do not cast us away from You, and do not remove Your holy spirit from us”.

While this prayer was appropriate for earlier generations who were very close to HaShem, it does not seem to accurately reflect our present situation. Were we once in HaShem’s presence, that we need to ask Him to “return us to His presence?” Do we have Ruach HaKodesh (a high spiritual level similar to Prophecy), that we need to plead with HaShem “not to take away our Ruach HaKodesh?”

Rabbi Yisrael Salanter answered this question with a highly inspirational answer. He said that our generation is one of spiritual darkness. Therefore, any person who is touched by the beauty of Torah, Mitzvoth, Prayer or Mussar, has been specially selected by HaShem. Even more, HaShem has drawn him or her close to Him, and surrounded them with holiness and light. It is this special closeness to HaShem that sparks their souls and hearts with excitement for Torah, Mitzvoth, Prayer, and Mussar.

We are truly close to HaShem – His truth, beauty, love, and holiness. Our faith in HaShem and His Torah, despite the prevalent darkness, is proof that HaShem has shown us His great light. It is as if we have a bit of Prophecy! Therefore, it makes perfect sense for us to ask, “Return us HaShem to You; as well as, “Do not remove from us Your holy spirit.” For HaShem has brought us close and surrounded us with love and light.

During Elul, Rosh HaShanah, and the days leading up to and including the purifying pinnacle of Yom Kippur, may we be inspired, delighted, and thrilled by our closeness to HaShem. In turn HaShem will answer our prayers and “Return us to Him and renew our sense of Ruach HaKodesh.”

TODAY: During Rosh HaShanah, focus on feeling Hashem’s Presence filling your soul with holiness and joy.

By Rabbi Zvi Miller.

Daily Torah Quote – 29th Elul, 5769

Breslev Israel

A person must seek peace with his fellow human, and seek peace with himself. Inner peace means that one doesn’t differentiate between favorable occurrences and unfavorable occurrences, and happily sees the Hand of G-d in whatever happens.
