eMussar Lesson for 13th Tishrei, 5770 -
Bring Joy to Others

eMussar – The Wisdom of Personal Growth
A daily inspirational, concise idea, with a suggested action.
PIRKEI AVOS\THE ETHICS OF OUR FATHERS\1:12
“Hillel said, Be from the students of Aaron – Love peace and seek peace; love people and draw them close to study Torah.”
The following story from the Talmud illustrates the incomparable blessings that a person receives for fulfilling the Mitzvot of “loving peace and loving people.”
Once, Rabbi Beroka was in the market square when Elijah the Prophet entered the area. The Rabbi asked Elijah, “Which people in the market are worthy for a share in the World to Come (Gan Eden).” Elijah answered, “Nobody here is destined for a share in the World to Come.”
After a few minutes a few more people came into the market and Elijah told the Rabbi that these people who have just entered the market have earned a share in the World to Come.
The Rabbi approached the men and asked them what they do? They said, “We make people happy! Whenever we see a person who is sad, we cheer him up!”
Relieving people from their troubles is one of the biggest and most important Mitzvot. It is a fulfillment of the great Torah principle, “Love your friend like you like yourself.” Even more, it gives pleasure to HaShem!
Imagine a father has a son abroad, who is experiencing great troubles and worry. The father hopes that someone will comfort the son and assure him that his difficulties will soon be over. HaShem is our Heavenly Father, if one of His children is worried, He takes great delight when we comfort him and bring a smile to his lips.
[Based on the commentary of the Chafetz Chaim to Pirkie Avos]
TODAY: Reach out to a person who has trouble and comfort them — and bring a smile to their lips.
By Rabbi Zvi Miller.

THE POWER OF SPEECH
Prayer must be spoken out in actual words – literally. It is not enough to think the prayers. It is true that G-d knows what we are thinking. But the words have to be spoken, because speech is the vessel with which we receive the flow of blessings. According to our words, so is the blessing we receive.
One who perfects his speech can receive abundant blessings through the vessels he forms with his words. This is why we must actually articulate our prayers with our mouths.
Likutey Moharan I, 34
Rabbi Nachman of Breslov
“It is a great mitzvah to be happy.”

eMussar Lesson for 12th Tishrei, 5770 -
The Secret Blessings

eMussar – The Wisdom of Personal Growth
A daily inspirational, concise idea, with a suggested action.
OHR HATORAH\TORAH EMANATIONS
Moshe blessed his beloved People of Israel before departing from this world. As he blessed them – the Torah and HaShem – also joined Moshe in blessing the People of Israel. The three-fold blessing of Moshe, the Torah, and HaShem combined to evoke a durable and powerful blessing for the People of Israel that can never be broken.
The holy Torah is rooted in the highest spiritual heights, emanating with the secret of creation. The first three words of the Torah (Bereishis barah Elokim) hint that HaShem created the world for the sake of Torah. More precisely, to reveal the Hidden Light of HaShem that is illuminated in the Torah. The Torah sustains the life of all worlds as King David said, “Life is found in the radiant countenance of the King.” The Torah – “the radiant countenance of the King” – is the root and source of all blessings.
The People of Israel are the guardians of the Torah. Through study and deed they shine the holy light of Torah to the nations of the world. Therefore, when Moshe blessed the People of Israel, both the Torah and HaShem, also gave their blessings. In this way, the People of Israel are eternally empowered to uphold the Torah.
The Zohar teaches: “HaShem, the Torah, and the People of Israel – are one.” Through the combined contributions of “the three partners” – HaShem, the Torah, and the People of Israel – the blessing of life flowing from the Torah is forever established.
[Based on Da'as Torah of Rabbi Yerucham Levi and the Nefesh HaChaim]
TODAY: As you study Torah, have the awareness that Torah study strengthens the existence of all creation; and enjoy the wellspring of blessings of HaShem, the Torah, and Moshe, that flow from the Torah.
By Rabbi Zvi Miller.

HITBODEDUT MEDITATION AND PERSONAL PRAYER – When Mashiach comes
There are certainly worthy people who do not practice Hitbodedut. But I call them confused. When Mashiach suddenly comes and calls them, they will be disoriented and confused.
But those who practice Hitbodedut will be like a person who wakes up from a restful sleep with a calm, settled mind. This is how we will be when Mashiach comes: our minds will be calm and settled, without panic or confusion.

Daily Torah Quote – 12th Tishrei, 5770
“I am a stranger and a resident amongst you” (Bereishit 23:4). The Jew is a “resident” in the world, for the Torah instructs us not to escape the physical reality but to inhabit it and elevate it. At the same time, the Jew feels himself a “stranger” in the material world — his true home is the world of spirituality, holiness and G-dliness from which his soul has been exiled and to which it yearns to return. Indeed, it is only because he remains a “stranger” that he can maintain the spiritual vision and integrity required to reside in the world and sanctify it as a “dwelling for G-d.”

HITBODEDUT MEDITATION AND PERSONAL PRAYER – Water wears away stone
Even if many days and years pass and it seems as if you have accomplished nothing with your prayers and conversations with G-d, don’t give up! Every single word makes an impression.
“Water wears away stone” (Job 14: 19 ) . It may seem that water dripping on hard stone could not make any impression, yet when water drips on stone continuously for many years, it can literally wear a hole in the stone. We actually see this.
Even if your heart is like stone and it seems that your words of prayer are making no impression at all, still, as the days and years pass, your heart of stone will also be softened. For: “Water wears away stone”.
Sichot Haran #234
Rabbi Nachman of Breslov

Azamra means “I will sing” (Psalms 146:2)
“And the way to sing the song of joy is by seeking the good in all people, especially in ourselves. Each good point is one more note in the song of life!”
