THE HEART OF PRAYER – 7th Av, 5769

The Baal Shem Tov Times

The Baal Shem Tov’s Teachings on Prayer

Section 2.12

The Baal Shem Tov taught:

All words should all be dedicated to serving G-d.

The Shechinah is in exile because She is the source of all words. Thus, all words should all be dedicated to serving G-d. Due to our sins, however, we use those words to speak about physical concerns and empty and false values.
Darchei Tzedek 1:20

Today 7th Av 5769 Little Mitzvos

Today 7th Av, 5769 – “Little Mitzvos

Little Mitzvos Org

You may think, how does one little Mitzvo help . . .

Our times are calling out to us to do Teshuva, but it’s too hard for us to change our lives. Even when we try, we end up reverting back to nothing, everything as was. We MUST show HaShem that we are seeing the signs and that it means something to us.

In this way, when HaShem asks what did we did, we can reply “I took this on…”

You must not consider this “Little Mitzvos” as a replacement for the Shulchan Oruch – you must continue learning Halochos via mainstream Seforim and with Shiurim.

Don’t use the shul as a short cut.

Halacha – Tshuvos – 7th Av, 5769

RevachL'Neshama

Rivevos Ephraim: Can You Buy Tisha B’Av Sneakers In The Nine Days

We are noheg not to buy any new clothing in the nine days. What happens if before Tisha B’Av realizes that he has nothing to wear on his feet that is permitted on Tisha B’Av like a pair of non-leather sneakers or slippers? Is buying a new pair considered buying new clothing, or since it is specifically for Tisha B’Av and is meant not to be considered usable footwear, only for aveilus, it is permitted?

Rav Ephraim Greenblatt in Rivevos Ephraim (1:375) says that the Sefer Hilchos Ketanos discusses this and says that it is permitted to buy sneakers. Furthermore he says that in the Sefer Zeh HaShulchan it distinguishes between a cheap pair of sneakers and a higher quality pair which should not be purchased unless there is a concern that the person will wear forbidden shoes if he has no other option. Similarly, he says, that his Rebbi, Rav Moshe Feinstein, told him that it is permissible since it is difficult to walk around in socks, just like the Zeh HaShulchan writes.

Important Note: We try to convey the Tshuva to the best of our ability. We admit that our understanding may not be accurate. One should learn the tshuva to verify the accuracy of our interpretation. Please also understand that this Tshuva may not be the final word on this topic. One should consult a Rav before drawing any conclusions.

“Zachor Eis Asher Asa Hashem L’Miriam BaDerech B’Tzaischem MiMitzrayim”

The Ramban and other Rishonim count, among the Mitzvos Aseh Min HaTorah, the mitzva of remembering and saying with your mouth each day what Hashem did to Miriam when she spoke about her brother Moshe. The Chofetz Chaim in Shaar Tvunah Perek 12 says that being Mikayem this mitzva can save you from the aveira of Lashon Hara. More than just saying the pasuk, says the Chofetz Chaim, one must think about the incident in order for it to have its intended effect.

The Daily Shmiras Ainayim Chizuk 7th Av 5769

The Daily Shmiras Ainayim Chizuk – 7th Av, 5769

GuardUrEyes

GuardUrEyes

A website for Jews struggling to maintain their moral purity in today’s world

Why is Sexual purity so important in Judaism? Our sages called Shmiras Habris “Yesod”, meaning “Foundation”. The foundation of a building is “underground” and no one sees it, yet it holds up the entire building! Shmiras Habris is the hidden part of a Jew, it’s the real you. If the foundation of a Jew is weak, his whole spiritual structure is fragile and in grave danger of collapse. At guardureyes.com we are finally joining together, for ourselves and for all future generations, to strengthen the foundations of our people!

There is a lot of material out there on the subject of guarding the eyes and the Bris, but sometimes “too much” is overwhelming.
A little bit each day is just right, to be able to read, digest and apply it to our lives.

The booklet “Windows to the Soul” by R’ Zvi Miller of the Salant foundation, is a MAN’S PRACTICAL GUIDE TO MASTERING HIS EYES. (Right click the link and choose “Save Target/Link As” to save the PDF booklet to your computer). To subscribe to eMussar, the daily lessons of the Salant Foundation, send email to salant@netvision.net.il

The Zohar compares this world to a churning ocean and the body of a man to a ship in the sea. Therefore, man requires knowledge in order to guide himself on a straight course, avoiding mishap and losing his way. The ocean of life roars fearfully and continuously. The winds of challenge blow and the negative impulse rips about like a tornado with unimaginable force. All of life comprises great and endless tests, which can easily capsize the ship and sink it into the murky, nethermost depths.

Yirat Shamayim and the study of Mussar will prevent the body from sinking into the miry depths of desire and corrupt character traits.
(Rabbi Yitzchak Blazer, Ohr Yisrael)

Today’s Shmiras Ainayim Chizuk

Go For Holiness (Part 2)

MAKING THE EFFORT-GAINING THE REWARD

1)  Each time that a person avoids an improper image Hashem calls him a “holy person” and he is rewarded for performing a Mitzvah.

2)  If a person cuts off an improper thought just once, it is “the root of all goodness” because it changes the propensity of his thoughts and actions.

3)  Whoever averts his eyes from looking at an improperly dressed woman merits receiving the Shechinah.” (Chazal Derech Eretz 1) The moment a person guards his eyes from looking at an improper sight, he receives the Shechinah, even if he does not sense it.

In the World to Come, on the merit of averting his eyes even one time, a man will see the glorious Shechinah of Hashem (Taharat HaKodesh). Imagine if a man averts his eyes continually!

May we be inspired to avert our eyes from seeing improper sights and merit receiving the holiness of the Shechinah for all eternity.

TODAY: Draw holiness to yourself by controlling your eyes from seeing improper sights.

Practical Application

Go For Holiness

The tremendous amount of holiness that Hashem grants me when I control my eyes gives me great strength and inspiration. Yesterday, I was walking by a magazine stand. I immediately reminded myself, “Look away, and you will merit seeing the Shechinah of Hashem!” This thought struck a chord, and I successfully averted the images.

Daily Writings on Kabbalah and Torah 7th Av 5769

Daily Writings on Kabbalah and Torah – 7th Av, 5769

True Kabbalah org

Everyone has different abilities depending on the tribe they represent. Let us all unify and work together in the battle against the Sitra Acher.

WISDOM CAN ONLY BE LOWERED TO A CERTAIN POINT – IF YOU DON’T UNDERSTAND IT READ IT OVER TWO THREE TIMES AND THINK ABOUT IT

Introduction to Kabbalah – Part 3

There are three parts to Kabbalah; Theoretical Kabbalah, Meditational Kabbalah and Practical Kabbalah (Kabbalah Masit)

Practical Kabbalah

-  Practical Kabbalah involves the coercing of angels and demons to change nature.
-  Practical Kabbalah overlaps with Meditative Kabbalah, many of these methods only work if done in a meditative state.
-  For example one might have to meditate on many things such as his breath and pronunciation on every letter of a divine name. This is impossible when not in expanded state of conscience.
-  The use of Practical Kabbalah was frowned upon by all leading Kabbalists.
-  Only one who had purified himself totally can use these methods and remain unharmed.
-  Many righteous people reached these levels and were known as Bali Shem (masters of the name).
-  When one forces an angel to do something, the angel wants to strike him down and kill him.
-  However after one dies he still has a share in the world to come. The angels make you sin until you lose this also, destroying the person totally.
-  One who uses practical kabbalah might get what he wants but it comes with a package.
-  Demons are like the mafia, once one starts dealing with them they will not leave him until he is destroyed from this world.
-  People should stay far away from Practical Kabbalah, whoever uses it will gain nothing but suffering.

Rabbi Nachman Sayings and Teachings 7th Av 5769

Rabbi Nachman’s – Sayings & Teachings – From The Essential Rabbi Nachman

Azamra org - Torah for Our Time

A treasury of sayings, teachings, parables and stories by the outstanding Chassidic sage, mystic and visionary, Rabbi Nachman of Breslov (1772-1810), whose message of faith, hope, courage, simplicity and joy is essential to each one of us and essential to the whole world.

Translated by Avraham Greenbaum

KNOWING G-D – The concealment within the concealment

There is nothing in the world that does not contain G-dliness, however hidden it may be. There are two levels of concealment. The first is simple concealment; the second is the “concealment within the concealment”.

When G-d is hidden with only one degree of concealment, it can certainly be hard to find Him. Yet with great effort and searching it is possible, because at least you know that G-d is hidden from you. However in the “concealment within the concealment”, the very fact that G-d is hidden is itself concealed. The person has no idea that G-d is hidden from him. It is then very hard indeed to find Him.

G-dliness becomes concealed as a result of sin. When a person commits a sin and then repeats it, the sin becomes permissible in his eyes, and this is what causes the first concealment. The more the person sins, the deeper he falls into the “concealment within the concealment”. Yet even in the “concealment within the concealment” G-dliness is present, because without His life-force nothing in the world could exist.

Through devotion to the Torah you can strip away all the veils and reveal G-d’s presence even when the “concealment within the concealment” is most intense. At last the unremitting cry of the Torah is heard: “How long, thoughtless people, will you continue loving thoughtlessness?” (Proverbs 1:22) . In the end you will be able to return to G-d regardless of where you have fallen.

Likutey Moharan I, 56

Avodah Perek Shira 7th Av 5769

Perek Shira – 7th Av, 5769

RevachL'Neshama

Perek Shira

Perek Shira: How To Get Rid Of The Flies From Your Table

The Isha HaShunamis, whose home Elisha HaNavi stayed at, commented that despite Elisha’s modest nature, she knew Elisha was a holy man. How? The gemara says (Brachos 10b) that she saw that there were no flies near his table. The Ben Yehoada explains the in Perek Shira it says that the fly says Shira when Bnei Yisroel is not learning Torah (The Yetzer Hara is compared to a fly). So the Isha HaShunamis concluded that since there were no flies on his table, he must constantly be learning torah.

This is why, says the Ben Yehoada, flies gravitate towards a table full of food. Since there is a special obligation to learn torah at the table during the meal, the flies come to see if the participants are discussing torah by the table. If they aren’t, the fly will have its opportunity to say Shira.

This would also explain the miracle in the Bais HaMikdash that in the place where they Shechted the animals, there were never any flies (Avos 5:5). Although MiDerech HaTeva you would expect the flies to swarm the freshly slaughtered meat since this was a Makom Kadosh of pure Deveikus to Hashem, the flies had no opportunity to say Shira there and therefore stayed away.

So If you are having fly problems, it may be worth adding a little more torah discussion to your table. There is plenty of upside benefit in any event.

Todays eMussar Lesson 6th Av 5769

Todays eMussar Lesson

eMussar – The Wisdom of Personal Growth
A daily inspirational, concise idea, with a suggested action.

Today 6th Av, 5769 – eMussar Lesson -
The Warm Ray of Torah Light

PIRKEI AVOS\THE ETHICS OF OUR FATHERS 2:15

“Rabbi Eliezer said: Warm yourself by the Light of the Sages.”

Just as the warmth of the sun melts the frozen rivers, so too, the warmth of love and care melts our very hearts. Indeed, there is nothing more precious, nurturing, and important for a person’s wellbeing than to be treated “warmly.” A heart that is warmed is open, joyous, and loving. In fact, even our very soul seeks – and needs – warmth.

Where is spiritual warmth found? Rabbi Eliezer said, “Warm yourself by the Light of the Sages.”

The “Light of the Sages” is equivalent to the “Light of HaShem,” i.e., the “Light of Torah.” Accordingly, a Rabbi teaching Torah emanates the Light of HaShem. Therefore, when we attend a Torah class, not only are we gaining Divine wisdom, even more, we are drawing our souls close to HaShem’s Light. We are basking in His warmth!

In addition, when we come close to a Torah sage, we receive HaShem’s blessing, just as Lot was blessed with wealth when he journeyed with Avraham. Furthermore, when we are in the Rabbi’s sphere we learn from and are inspired by his good deeds, just as Lot learned the wonderful ways of loving-kindness from Avraham; and welcomed the angels into home.

May we draw close to the teachings of Torah sages and benefit from their warm light, blessings, and kindly ways.
[Based on the commentary of the Vilna Gaon to Pirkei Avos]

TODAY: Attend a Torah class – and enjoy the warmth – deep down in your soul.

By Rabbi Zvi Miller.
