DIVINE LIGHT 6th Av 5769

DIVINE LIGHT – 6th Av, 5769

The Baal Shem Tov Times

The Mystical Light of the Baal Shem Tov

Section 47.

Praying for G-d’s sake

The Baal Shem Tov taught:

Prayers for physical needs, such as: “Heal us and we shall be healed,” “Bless us with a good year,” etc., are like [turning to] a father who longs to fulfill his son’s desires, and to make sure that he lacks nothing, even foolish things. For it is the nature of one who is good to do good. G-d’s only thought is how to bestow material goodness to the Congregation of Israel, who are called His children.

Prayer draws down sustenance and shefa into all the worlds, even the material world to satisfy G-d’s longing to give to the Children of Israel. Thus, prayers [on behalf of G-d] are accepted immediately. For heaven scrutinizes the prayers you pray for yourself, to see if they are worthy of being received. But when you pray for G-d’s sake, there is nothing to stop them.
Kedushas Levi

The Wisdom of Kabbalah

Quotes of prominent Kabbalists

A never-ending coupling

“But he must acknowledge in his soul that the Creator chases him just as much as he is chasing the Creator. And he must never forget that, even during the strongest longing. And when he remembers that the Creator chases and yearns to cleave unto to him as much as he does, too, he will always progress from strength to strength with yearning and craving, in a never ending Zivug (spiritual unity), which is the complete perfection of the soul’s power, until he is rewarded with love.”

Today 6th Av 5769 Little Mitzvos

Today 6th Av, 5769 – “Little Mitzvos

Little Mitzvos Org

You may think, how does one little Mitzvo help . . .

Our times are calling out to us to do Teshuva, but it’s too hard for us to change our lives. Even when we try, we end up reverting back to nothing, everything as was. We MUST show HaShem that we are seeing the signs and that it means something to us.

In this way, when HaShem asks what did we did, we can reply “I took this on…”

You must not consider this “Little Mitzvos” as a replacement for the Shulchan Oruch – you must continue learning Halochos via mainstream Seforim and with Shiurim.

AvodahAhavas Yisroel – 6th Av, 5769

RevachL'Neshama

Rav Shlomo Volbe – A Smile Can Bring The Galus To Its Knees

The whole world exists, says Rav Volbe, on the smile of Hashem, His He’oras Panim. We say in Shmoneh Esrei, “B’Or Panecha Nasata Lanu Hashem Elokeinu… U’Bracha, ViRachamim, ViChaim, ViSholom”, with the light of Your face, kviyachol, You gave us… blessing, mercy, life, and peace. In Birchas Kohanim the brachos also revolve around this same theme, “Ya’er Hashem Panav, Yisa Hashem Panav…”. On the opposite side we know that when there is Hester Panim, when Hashem hides His face, our fate becomes one of terrible tragedy and misery beyond comprehension.

The same thing, says Rav Volbe, applies to people. Within a person lies a treasure house of Bracha that is given over to the next person through his smile. The main power of a person is to gladden and light up the people around him with his warm smile. From the earliest age a baby can discern between various expressions. Smile at a month old baby and it will coo in delight. Make an ugly face and the baby is sure to break out into tears. A child that is raised without a smile will not grow, just as a plant will not grow without sunlight. Who knows, asks Rav Volbe, if the smile is not more critical to its development than food?

A student needs the smile of his rebbe, and a child the smile of its parent. Every person needs the smile of his friend, neighbor, and acquaintance. Even parents and teachers are infused with life by the smile of their charges. This is all that we daven for from Hashem, and it is what we should give to others. Your neshama is a Cheilek Elokai MiMaa’al and your smile in a small way gives Hashem’s Heoras Panim to another. We all need to be on the receiving end of a warm smile to survive and to grow.

The Bais HaMikdash was destroyed because of Sinas Chinam, the terrible Hester Panim among people which led to Hester Panim from Hashem. Let us all try, during this terribly sad week as we see Hester Panim all around us, to shine some of Hashem’s light on the world. Let’s make a an extra effort to smile at our children, our friends, and people in the street even if it is totally out of character for us. From of all the ingenious schemes that our busy minds devise to try to bring the ultimate geula, who would of ever thought that we can melt the long, bitter, and cold galus with but a warm smile?

How To Improve Your Acoustics Without Voice Lessons

The Mishna Brura is a Sefer that stands in its own league. It is a sefer on Halacha that has merited in a relatively very short time to be accepted by all of Klal Yisroel without exception. Moreover, his words are treated like a Rishon, like Rashi or the Rambam where every word is pored over and analyzed.

Rav Yitzchok Kaminetzky says that this is a reward Midah Kineged Midah, for the tzaddik who woke up the world and reminded them that each and every word that comes out of our mouth packs incredible power, both for good and bad. When our words become more important to us, then they will become more important to Hashem as well and be held up for distinction by our peers and even our own family. Wouldn’t that be nice?

“Zachor Eis Asher Asa Hashem L’Miriam BaDerech B’Tzaischem MiMitzrayim”

The Ramban and other Rishonim count, among the Mitzvos Aseh Min HaTorah, the mitzva of remembering and saying with your mouth each day what Hashem did to Miriam when she spoke about her brother Moshe. The Chofetz Chaim in Shaar Tvunah Perek 12 says that being Mikayem this mitzva can save you from the aveira of Lashon Hara. More than just saying the pasuk, says the Chofetz Chaim, one must think about the incident in order for it to have its intended effect.

The Daily Shmiras Ainayim Chizuk – 6th Av, 5769

GuardUrEyes

GuardUrEyes

A website for Jews struggling to maintain their moral purity in today’s world

Why is Sexual purity so important in Judaism? Our sages called Shmiras Habris “Yesod”, meaning “Foundation”. The foundation of a building is “underground” and no one sees it, yet it holds up the entire building! Shmiras Habris is the hidden part of a Jew, it’s the real you. If the foundation of a Jew is weak, his whole spiritual structure is fragile and in grave danger of collapse. At guardureyes.com we are finally joining together, for ourselves and for all future generations, to strengthen the foundations of our people!

There is a lot of material out there on the subject of guarding the eyes and the Bris, but sometimes “too much” is overwhelming.
A little bit each day is just right, to be able to read, digest and apply it to our lives.

The booklet “Windows to the Soul” by R’ Zvi Miller of the Salant foundation, is a MAN’S PRACTICAL GUIDE TO MASTERING HIS EYES. (Right click the link and choose “Save Target/Link As” to save the PDF booklet to your computer). To subscribe to eMussar, the daily lessons of the Salant Foundation, send email to salant@netvision.net.il

The Zohar compares this world to a churning ocean and the body of a man to a ship in the sea. Therefore, man requires knowledge in order to guide himself on a straight course, avoiding mishap and losing his way. The ocean of life roars fearfully and continuously. The winds of challenge blow and the negative impulse rips about like a tornado with unimaginable force. All of life comprises great and endless tests, which can easily capsize the ship and sink it into the murky, nethermost depths.

Yirat Shamayim and the study of Mussar will prevent the body from sinking into the miry depths of desire and corrupt character traits.
(Rabbi Yitzchak Blazer, Ohr Yisrael)

Today’s Shmiras Ainayim Chizuk

Go For Holiness (Part 1)

“Man was only created in order to delight in Hashem and take pleasure from the Divine Presence, which is the true pleasure of all the pleasures that can be found.”

The purpose of man in this world is to fulfill Mitzvot, serve Hashem and withstand tests. The purpose of pleasures in this world is only to assist a person in having calmness and peace of mind so that he can turn his heart to serve Hashem. It is fitting that everything he does should be dedicated to the Creator.”

(Mesilat Yesharim, Chapter 1)

“There are times when an involuntary reaction occurs. How can I apply the ideas that we learned to gain control of the situation?”

One of the most important things to know when an improper sight is imposed upon our view is that its grip on us will fade! The image could trigger an intense reaction in our mind. We might even think, “I can’t shake this.” However, this is no more than the force of imagination. It is an illusion, a mirage. Our attention to the image is the only fuel that keeps this image alive. Therefore, if we simply let it pass, it will dissipate and vanish. Like turning the page in a book, we can switch the focus of our mind by simple refocusing. We will see a few examples below of how to refocus.

AN UNEXPECTED CHALLENGE

Alan enters the local flower shop to buy flowers for Shabbat. The pretty female clerk tells him that the flowers he chose need special treatment and gives him detailed instructions. He wasn’t expecting this and struggles to listen without staring at her in an inappropriate way. He gains control of the situation by remembering the great merit of mastering his eyes.

The Mesilat Yesharim tells us that Hashem placed us in a dimension with many things that distract us from coming close to Him. In order to merit eternal reward in Gan Eden, we must overcome these challenges and win the war of holiness over desire.

Daily Writings on Kabbalah and Torah 6th Av 5769

Daily Writings on Kabbalah and Torah – 6th Av, 5769

True Kabbalah org

Everyone has different abilities depending on the tribe they represent. Let us all unify and work together in the battle against the Sitra Acher.

WISDOM CAN ONLY BE LOWERED TO A CERTAIN POINT – IF YOU DON’T UNDERSTAND IT READ IT OVER TWO THREE TIMES AND THINK ABOUT IT

Introduction to Kabbalah – Part 2

There are three parts to Kabbalah; Theoretical Kabbalah, Meditational Kabbalah and Practical Kabbalah (Kabbalah Masit)

Meditational Kabbalah
-  When one meditates he can separate his soul from his body and transcend to the upper universes.
-  Theoretical Kabbalah serves as a map telling one how to prepare and where to go.
-  Although many religions practice meditation, they never leave the realm of the klipah since they have defiled themselves.
-  When one keeps the rules of halacha and practices the ways of Kabbalah, he purifies himself. If he then meditates, he can climb to the highest spiritual levels.
-  Meditation involves controlling ones thought process, blocking out the five senses and entering Mochin Dgadlus (expanded consciousness).
-  Unless one meditates he is only using three to five percent of his brain.
-  Part of the brain receives signals of spirituality. These signals are very sublime and are blocked out by the other five senses.
-  When one clears his head of all thought he can feel spirituality. If one keeps on working on this he can transcend to the upper worlds.
-  Meditation was the mainframe of Judiasim and was practiced by all Jews.
-  The highest level of meditation is prophecy.
-  There were over a million prophets. They attended schools called Beni Haniviem where they learned meditative techniques.
-  Maseh Merkavah consists of meditative techniques used to transcend to the spiritual worlds.
-  One of the main draws of Avodah Zarah (Idol Worship) was the meditative experience, if they could not get it from the side of holiness they would go to the other side.
-  Experiences during meditation are extremely enjoyable, they lead to extreme ecstasy . People would even go to the Sitra Achra to receive such an experience.
-  Drugs provide a very low copy of the meditative experience, yet they are constantly used by people, despite the destruction they cause.
-  Meditative experiences are so enjoyable that a person might not want to come back down, it is from this that people go insane.
-  If a person has a wife and children he is motivated to come back down. This is the reason why many advanced schools of meditation would not accept a person unless he was married and in full control of his desires.
-  Even after prophecy ended, meditation was still an important aspect of Judaism.
-  Hacholot Rabbati describes how R’Nechunya ben Haknah, R’Yishmoel and many other Tanoyim used the meditative methods of Maseh Merkavah to reach the high levels of Alom Yitzirah.

-  All Rishonim and many Achronim practiced meditation.
-  Since these topics involved the highest mysteries of the Torah, they were never written down. The few manuscripts that existed were never published.
-  If one knows the mysteries of Kabbalah he can see many hints and references in the Mishnah and the works of the Rishonim.
-  The main down play of meditation happened during the time of Shabti Tzvi.
-  Shabti Tzvi had many powers which he received from Meditative and Practical kabbalah.
-  R’ Yisroel Bal Shem and the Nistorim tried to bring these issues back out to the public.

-  The first generations of Chasidim were very busy with meditation and wrote extensively on this topic.
-  With the rise of the Enlightenment Movement in Europe meditation lost all its status.
-  Experiences that occur in a state of expanded consciousness are logically impossible to describe to someone who was never there.
-  Even the Chasidim and many Kabbalists lost their focus and started ignoring meditation.
-  It is known that prophecy must return before the coming of Moshiach. The only way to reach prophecy is through meditation.
-  In addition it is very hard to reach any high levels unless one practices meditation.
-  Every one must do R’ Nachman’s meditation, Hisbodedute – spontanous prayer.

Rabbi Nachman Sayings and Teachings 6th Av 5769

Rabbi Nachman’s – Sayings & Teachings – From The Essential Rabbi Nachman

Azamra org - Torah for Our Time

A treasury of sayings, teachings, parables and stories by the outstanding Chassidic sage, mystic and visionary, Rabbi Nachman of Breslov (1772-1810), whose message of faith, hope, courage, simplicity and joy is essential to each one of us and essential to the whole world.

Translated by Avraham Greenbaum

KNOWING G-D – G-d is in everything

G-d’s glory cries out from all things, for “The whole earth is filled with His glory” (Isaiah 6:3) . Even the stories of the nations cry out with G-d’s glory: “Let the nations tell of His glory!” (Psalms 96:3) . His glory is reflected even in their tales and stories.

G-d’s glory cries out, calling and signaling you to draw closer. For G-d wants you with all His love and kindness.

Sometimes your prayers become like flames and the words flow from your lips with burning fervor and desire. This is G-d’s own light within you, calling you to draw near. Your fervent passion is a spark of G-d’s own essence – for “He is your praise, He is your G-d” (Deuteronomy 10:21 ) . G-d Himself is your praise and prayer. Sometimes you can literally pray before G-d Himself.

And even when G-d withdraws and seems far away, you must still pray to Him. You must actually cast your prayers, throwing them towards G-d from afar, as it says: “ Cast your burden upon G-d” (Psalms 55:23) . “Happy is the man who knows how to cast arrows” ( Tikkuney Zohar ). These “arrows” are the prayers that must be thrown towards G-d.

Sichot Haran #52

Rabbi Nachman of Breslov
“It is a great mitzvah to be happy.”

Perek Shira: A Deer In The Headlights

Rav Chaim Kanievsky explains that deer meat is very sweet and sought after by many predators in the animal kingdom. This doesn’t bode well for the continued existence of the deer. However, Hashem gives the deer the tools it needs to survive. Unmatched speed and the ability to sleep with one eye open and one eye on its surroundings, keeps the deer one step ahead of the animals hoping to have a sumptuous meal.

This why, says Rav Chaim Kanievsky, the deer sings “VaAni Ashir Uzecha, VaAranen LaBoker Chasdecha Ki Hayisa Misgav Li UManos B’Yom Tzar Li” I will sing of your power; and I will sing of your loving kindness in the morning; for you have been my fortress and my refuge in the day of my trouble. The deer thanks Hashem for giving him the tools to run away and survive another night in the dangerous wilderness.

Maybe we can compare this to our personal struggle against the Yetzer Hara which is compared to the darkness of night. When we are tired and weak he attacks us. However no matter how smart or fast he is, Hashem has made us one step smarter and faster then him. We have the ability to escape, even as he closes in in our moment of weakness. For this we thank Hashem.

Let’s use the tools and abilities that Hashem has given us. When temptation closes in, remember to run and not get caught like a deer in the headlights!

Daily Torah Quote 6th Av 5769

Daily Torah Quote – 6th Av, 5769

Breslev Israel

Do not seek greatness for yourself, and do not lust for honor. More than you study, do. Desire not the table of kings, for your table is greater than theirs, and your crown is greater than theirs, and faithful is your Employer to pay you the rewards of your work.

Tikun Habris 6th Av 5769

Tikun Habris – 6th Av, 5769

True Kabbalah org

Tikun Habris is the most important topic to discuss in this low generation, and no one is dealing with it.

If you are Jewish then you are part of the Holy nation. Have mercy on your holy soul and stop blemishing it with the sin of wasting seed. Take heed of what the kabbalah says and stop committing this sin of wasting seed.

Rebbe Nachman of Breslev on Shmiras Habris

These are only the basic references about Tikun Hbris. The torahs have a lot more about this topic. We strongly suggest that everyone learn Likutay Maharan.

One who has rectified his Bris, it is imposable for him to fall into the desire of money.

[Likutay 1 Torah 23]

Hassid bar

A Wonderous Segulah to rectify oneself and to rectify Nefesh Ruach and Neshama. Culled from the Holy ARIZALs works to be said every day after prayers.

Tikun Mem Ches from the Tikunei Zohar has the Segulah to bring that which is precious and holy out of what has fallen into spiritual darkness and to rectify the sins related to the Bris Kodesh.

Whomever says it will be worthy of many wonderous things relating to body and soul.

SelfGrowth Keep Smiling 6th Av 5769

Self-Growth – Keep Smiling – 6th Av, 5769

Self-Growth - Keep Smiling

Don’t be a fool

The first of the Torah’s commands is don’t be a fool.* Don’t make foolish mistakes. We can control our stupidity by not acting impulsively, with bullhead confidence — pausing to think before we speak — and planning our lives in a deliberate way.*

*Attributed to Rav Yisrael Salanter.

Have a growth-filled, uplifting day

Todays eMussar Lesson 5th Av 5769

Todays eMussar Lesson

eMussar – The Wisdom of Personal Growth
A daily inspirational, concise idea, with a suggested action.

Today 5th Av, 5769 – eMussar Lesson –
Solid Tust In HaShem

PARSHA INSIGHTS\THE SAGES OF MUSSAR

Regarding the prospect of entering the Land of Israel, the verse (Devarim 1:22) states: “And all of you approached me and they said, ‘Let’s send men in front of us and they will search out the land.’”

The lack of faith about their ability to conquer the land of Israel cast them into a state of confusion. The normal protocol was for Moshe to send spies to determine the best strategy of how to wage battle. The fact that they did not wait for Moshe to send spies, reveals that their behavior was influenced by their anxiety.

Moshe realized that their insecurity about the outcome of the battle would subject them to the principle: “A person is led on the path that he so desires to go.” In other words, the negative emotion of fear was an opening for the negative impulseto enter within their hearts. Accordingly, Moshe recognized that they would ultimately present a negative report concerning the Land of Israel.

Even worse, Moshe realized that the influence of the negative influence might corrupt Yehoshua. In reference to this the verse says: “And all of you approached me…,” implying that the entire group was suffering from worry. Moshe also knew that once they were in the gravitational field of the negative impulse, disaster was unavoidable. All he could do was pray that his beloved disciple, Yehoshua, not fall into the pessimistic attitude of his brethren.

Faith is the foundation of Torah. HaShem openly revealed His omnipotence and love for Klal Yisrael when He redeemed us from Egypt. Therefore, despair is totally inappropriate for the Jewish people. Hence, if we maintain our faith in HaShem, the negative impulse will be unable to gain access to our hearts and deeds. May we strengthen our faith in Hashem – totally and absolutely. On the merit of our faith we will see the immediate redemption of Am Yisrael!
[Based on Ohr RaShaz, the Alter of Kelm]

TODAY: Repeat the following verse to yourself three times: “Hope in HaShem, strengthen yourself and HaShem will encourage you, and hope in HaShem.”

This Week’s Article I am a Leopard

This Week's Article

I am a Leopard

By Rabbi Avraham Tzvi Schwartz

    I am a Leopard

Yehuda ben Teima says, “Be fierce as a leopard, light as an eagle, fast as a deer and as strong as a lion…*

Say: I am a leopard. I am charged, determined, driven, I am fierce about doing what I need to do.

Say: I am an eagle. I soar high, detached from the pettiness of this world, objective — thus I can see what is right and what is wrong.

Say: I am a deer. I move fast, efficiently, free of heaviness, laziness — to finish my projects, to reach the goals I set before myself.

Say: I am a lion. I am fearless, solid, powerful, even-tempered in carrying out my mission — the reason I came into this world.

Focus on the qualities of these creatures, and be them.

* Pirkei Avos 5.23

    Equanimity

If a person suddenly receives a large sum of money — whatever by him is a large sum — understandably, he feels a great happiness. He will sing through his next few days. On the other hand, if he loses a great sum of money, he feels upset, sad, angry, etc. Everything in his life turns black. But really, the ideal is to treat both events equally, with calm feelings of gratitude.

Life is a gift; its difficulties are the spice that makes it tastier. Practically, it is hard to say thank you for the sorrows and troubles that challenge us. Still, to remain assured, serene, happy, under all circumstances, is the ideal. And, just knowing that this is something to strive for, can help us ride our challenges to future success.

    From Outside

Detach yourself from yourself. Look at yourself from outside — as a stranger would look at you. Then coach yourself to success.
