Living a Dream

We need to have a dream and believe its truth. We need to see our dream as real, and — more importantly — as affecting the type of person we become. Thus, we live our dream right now.

KESER SHEM TOV – 24th Tammuz, 5769

KESER SHEM TOV

The Baal Shem Tov Times

Anthology of the Teachings of the Baal Shem Tov

Kst 185: FEIGNING PIETY

“Someone who duplicates it to enjoy its fragrance shall be cut off from his people.”1

The Baal Shem Tov taught:

If someone tries to “duplicate” the ketoreth, which symbolizes the saintly people, who are themselves referred to as ketoreth, because they bind and unite everything with G-d,2 and thus hopes to enjoy his own fame spreading far and wide like the fragrance of the ketoreth, he will be cut off from his people.3

1Exodus 30:38.
2The Hebrew root of the word ketoreth means to bind.
3Ultimately, feigned piety will become known, and its owner will become a laughingstock to his people. And on a deeper level, anyone who imitates the conduct of the saintly for his personal benefit is by definition – his own inner experience – cut off from G-d, and automatically from his/His people.

Translation and commentary by Rabbi Yehoshua Starrett.

The Wisdom of Kabbalah

Quotes of prominent Kabbalists

“One who feels within, after several attempts, that one’s soul within is in peace only when engaging in the secrets of Torah, should know for certain that this is what one has been made for. Let no preventions—corporeal or spiritual—stop one from running to the source of one’s life and true wholeness.”

Today 24th Tammuz, 5769 – “Little Mitzvos

Little Mitzvos Org

You may think, how does one little Mitzvo help . . .

Our times are calling out to us to do Teshuva, but it’s too hard for us to change our lives. Even when we try, we end up reverting back to nothing, everything as was. We MUST show HaShem that we are seeing the signs and that it means something to us.

In this way, when HaShem asks what did we did, we can reply “I took this on…”

You must not consider this “Little Mitzvos” as a replacement for the Shulchan Oruch – you must continue learning Halochos via mainstream Seforim and with Shiurim.

Rav Vosner: Camp Trips In The Three Weeks

The three weeks falls out in the middle of camp season, and camp trips are often an integral part of the summer program. Rav Vosner was asked (Shevet HaLevi 10:26) if it is proper for camps to take children on trips in the three weeks before the nine days start.

He answered that from Shiva Asar B’Tammuz until Rosh Chodesh Av, “Yesh LiMa’et Ktzas B’Tiulim”, the trips should be somewhat minimized in order that the children should recognize that these changes are because these are days of mourning. In the event that trips are made, they should become a Derech Mitzva by discussing Divrei Torah and Chizuk the entire way.

Important Note: We try to convey the Tshuva to the best of our ability. We admit that our understanding may not be accurate. One should learn the tshuva to verify the accuracy of our interpretation. Please also understand that this Tshuva may not be the final word on this topic. One should consult a Rav before drawing any conclusions.

Can Hashem Help You Keep It Closed?

Hashem takes care of all our needs, but it is up to us to take care of our own behavior. That being said, there are many tefilos that we say, asking Hashem to help us guard our tongue. The Chofetz Chaim says (Chovas HaShmira intro) that it is possible to ask Hashem to help you control your speech on one condition, you do you your best and ask Hashem for additional help in this colossal challenge.

The Chofetz Chaim likens this to the mitzva of helping your friend load and unload his donkey. True you must help him, but only if he is working on it himself. If he sits on the side and says, “since you have a mitzva do it yourself”, you are not not obligated to help him.

If we give it our best shot, we can then ask Hashem to help us. It is worth the effort because Hashem can get the job done.

“Zachor Eis Asher Asa Hashem L’Miriam BaDerech B’Tzaischem MiMitzrayim”

The Ramban and other Rishonim count, among the Mitzvos Aseh Min HaTorah, the mitzva of remembering and saying with your mouth each day what Hashem did to Miriam when she spoke about her brother Moshe. The Chofetz Chaim in Shaar Tvunah Perek 12 says that being Mikayem this mitzva can save you from the aveira of Lashon Hara. More than just saying the pasuk, says the Chofetz Chaim, one must think about the incident in order for it to have its intended effect.

The Daily Shmiras Ainayim Chizuk – 24th Tammuz, 5769

The Daily Shmiras Ainayim Chizuk – 24th Tammuz, 5769

GuardUrEyes

GuardUrEyes

A website for Jews struggling to maintain their moral purity in today’s world

Why is Sexual purity so important in Judaism? Our sages called Shmiras Habris “Yesod”, meaning “Foundation”. The foundation of a building is “underground” and no one sees it, yet it holds up the entire building! Shmiras Habris is the hidden part of a Jew, it’s the real you. If the foundation of a Jew is weak, his whole spiritual structure is fragile and in grave danger of collapse. At guardureyes.com we are finally joining together, for ourselves and for all future generations, to strengthen the foundations of our people!

There is a lot of material out there on the subject of guarding the eyes and the Bris, but sometimes “too much” is overwhelming.
A little bit each day is just right, to be able to read, digest and apply it to our lives.

The booklet “Windows to the Soul” by R’ Zvi Miller of the Salant foundation, is a MAN’S PRACTICAL GUIDE TO MASTERING HIS EYES. (Right click the link and choose “Save Target/Link As” to save the PDF booklet to your computer). To subscribe to eMussar, the daily lessons of the Salant Foundation, send email to salant@netvision.net.il

The Zohar compares this world to a churning ocean and the body of a man to a ship in the sea. Therefore, man requires knowledge in order to guide himself on a straight course, avoiding mishap and losing his way. The ocean of life roars fearfully and continuously. The winds of challenge blow and the negative impulse rips about like a tornado with unimaginable force. All of life comprises great and endless tests, which can easily capsize the ship and sink it into the murky, nethermost depths.

Yirat Shamayim and the study of Mussar will prevent the body from sinking into the miry depths of desire and corrupt character traits.
(Rabbi Yitzchak Blazer, Ohr Yisrael)

Today’s Shmiras Ainayim Chizuk

THE PRIMARY REMEDY

Continuous Mussar study over time will instill the awareness that Hashem sees our actions and knows our thoughts. This is the primary and indispensable weapon to gain self-mastery and win the battle over the eyes.

Once we have attained Awareness of Hashem, we have a force at our disposal that can contend with and overcome our desires. When we are tempted to look at something improper, our Awareness of Hashem will remind us, “Hashem sees all of our actions and knows our innermost thoughts. All of our deeds will ultimately be judged by G-d.”

TODAY: Make a commitment to study Mussar each day for about twenty minutes.

The Method of Mussar Study

~   Select a Mussar book from the ones mentioned in the previous post (The Study of Mussar).
~   Schedule a daily time for Mussar study.
~   Read aloud so that it penetrates your heart.
~   Even if you don’t sense any immediate change – persevere. With time you will be transformed and elevated.

Internalize

~   Highlight key ideas.
~   Write these ideas on an index card.
~   Carry the card with you.
~   Review the ideas a few times a day.

Guidelines

~   The key to success in Mussar is incremental steps.
~   Devote about 20 minutes a day to Mussar study..
~   Absorb the concepts at your own pace..
~   Know that Mussar is healing your soul.

Everyone has different abilities depending on the tribe they represent. Let us all unify and work together in the battle against the Sitra Acher.

WISDOM CAN ONLY BE LOWERED TO A CERTAIN POINT – IF YOU DON’T UNDERSTAND IT READ IT OVER TWO THREE TIMES AND THINK ABOUT IT

Basic explanation of the seventy nations

-   Every nation has a different essence.
-   If one would take the essence of every group of people in the world and categorize them, eventually it will break into seventy archetypes categories.
-   Over history the nations have become intermingled.
-   Many times a leader or the ruling class is enforcing his essence over a nation that is not his.

Rabbi Nachman’s – Sayings & Teachings – From The Essential Rabbi Nachman

Azamra org - Torah for Our Time

A treasury of sayings, teachings, parables and stories by the outstanding Chassidic sage, mystic and visionary, Rabbi Nachman of Breslov (1772-1810), whose message of faith, hope, courage, simplicity and joy is essential to each one of us and essential to the whole world.

Translated by Avraham Greenbaum

SERVING G-D – For His glory

Every person must minimize his own honor and maximize G-d’s honor. One who pursues worldly honor will not be worthy of experiencing G-d’s glory. Even if he attains some worldly status, people will constantly look at him askance and want to know who he is that he should be accorded such respect. But one who flees from honor – minimizing his own honor and maximizing that of G-d – will attain G-d’s glory.

The test of true repentance is when a person remains silent in the face of ridicule and abuse, patiently accepting all the insults thrown at him. This is how he slaughters his evil inclination, and then he will be worthy of G-d’s glory.

Sichot Haran #136

Avodah – Perek Shira – 24th Tammuz, 5769

Perek Shira – 24th Tammuz, 5769

RevachL'Neshama

Perek Shira

Perek Shira: Roses Are Red, Dew is Free… If Hashem Sends You a Gift, Let It Be

Both dew and rain are essential for life as they nourish nature and help the crops grow. Rav Yehonoson Eibushitz points out that they have very different origins. Rain is condensation that goes up from the oceans and is purified in the sky. It is then sent back down in the form of sweet rainwater. Dew on the other hand originates in the heavens above without any involvement from the world below.

The Knaf Renanim explains from Chazal that in order to get bracha from the heavens we must initiate the process from below. We must initiate a relationship with Hashem by sending up Mitzvos and Ma’asim Tovim in order for Hashem to open up the heavens and pour abundant bracha on our lives.

In the history of the world, Hashem tells us, there will come a time that Bnei Yisroel will be so despondent and so disconnected from Hashem that we will not even be able to make this minimum effort to call out to Hashem. What will be? How will we merit salvation? To this Hashem answers (Hoshea 14:6) , “Ehehyeh KaTal LiYisroel”, I will be like the dew to Am Yisroel. I will send bracha that originates from me without waiting for their efforts from below.

There is only one condition that we need to fulfill in order to receive this free gift. We need to open up to able to receive this Bracha. “Yifrach KiShoshana” we must resemble a rose. Roses are known to get their beautiful smell by absorbing dew. The Rose with its head opened on top and its petal forming a cup around its head, catch more dew than other differently structured flowers.

Many times Hashem send bracha into our lives and we are too stubborn to even absorb it. We have our own visions of how our salvation should be played out and are too blind to see Hashem’s chesed. Open up your eyes and see the opportunity that Hashem is sending your way. Free gifts don’t come often so don’t let it slip away.

Tikun Habris – 24th Tammuz, 5769

True Kabbalah org

Tikun Habris is the most important topic to discuss in this low generation, and no one is dealing with it.

If you are Jewish then you are part of the Holy nation. Have mercy on your holy soul and stop blemishing it with the sin of wasting seed. Take heed of what the kabbalah says and stop committing this sin of wasting seed.

Rebbe Nachman of Breslev on Shmiras Habris

These are only the basic references about Tikun Hbris. The torahs have a lot more about this topic. We strongly suggest that everyone learn Likutay Maharan.

When one does not guard the Bris, this results from his haughtiness. It is as if he makes himself into a deity, for he shows that he is not satisfied with the holiness of G-D. He therefore flaws the divine name SHKY, for this name represents that one should be content with holiness. When a person does guard the Bris, he merits a light that will guide him in the path of Teshuva (repentants).

From our Sages on the Parshah
Parshah: Matot-Massei Verses: Numbers 30:2-36:13

He that kills a person accidentally… shall remain [exiled in the "city of refuge"] until the death of the High Priest (Numbers 35:11, 25)

The mothers of high priests would provide food and clothing for the exiled killers, that they should not pray for their son’s death.

Why is the High Priest to blame? –As they say here [in Babylon], “Toby did the jobbing and Ziggad got the slogging?” or as they say there [in the Land of Israel]: “Shechem got him a wife and Mabgai caught the knife?” Said a venerable old scholar: I heard an explanation at one of the seasonal lectures of Raba, that he failed to prayed for his generation.

As was the case of that fellow who was devoured by a lion some three parasangs from Rabbi Joshua ben Levi’s town, and Elijah the Prophet refused to visit Rabbi Joshua on that account for three days.
