Perek Shira: Who Is The Boss? The Horse Says, The One With The Food

Did you ever go horseback riding? The first and most important rule they teach you is that you need to show the horse who is the boss. If you establish that, then you are okay. If not, get ready for a rough ride on the of this fast and mighty creature. The Gemara Pesachim says that a horse eats a lot, works a little, is arrogant, and would like to kill its owner in war. Not exactly the profile of an animal that you would think would relate to a weak human being as Mr. Boss. Similarly the Gemara in Pesachim says that Canaan, the father of all slaves commanded his children who were destined to be slaves, love stealing, love adultery, hate your owner, among other less than sterling character traits.

Inborn traits like those possessed by the slave and horse are the hallmarks of someone who desperately wants his freedom. Yet both of them are loyal because they know who butters their bread. Not only are they loyal but they are a model of subjugation and modesty. Similarly says the Knaf Renanim, we too at the very least should learn from these two characters how to behave towards Hashem. We may have our own plans and desires but at the very least we should be smart enough to know that when we need food we need to totally submit ourselves to our boss. When is that? Always!

The horse says, “Hinei K’Enei Avodim El Yad Adonaihem, K’Enei Shifcha El Yad Givirta, Kein Eineinu EL Hashem Elokeinu”; we are like the arrogant slave and the maidservant whose eyes are turned towards its master in complete humility, at least when it needs something.

Daily Torah Quote – 9th Tammuz, 5769

Breslev Israel

The Rebbe says in Likutei Moharan II 7:4, “Even when his time comes to leave the world, and the soul ascends and cleaves to its Source in the upper worlds, this is not the ultimate and complete goal, for the soul to only be attached above. Completion for the soul is that, as it cleaves above, it should continue to be below as well. It is, therefore, necessary that a person leave a part of himself, his mind, behind when he leaves the world.”

True Kabbalah org

Tikun Habris is the most important topic to discuss in this low generation, and no one is dealing with it.

If you are Jewish then you are part of the Holy nation. Have mercy on your holy soul and stop blemishing it with the sin of wasting seed. Take heed of what the kabbalah says and stop committing this sin of wasting seed.

The Sin of Wasting Seed

He causes the lengthening of exile, plagues and all tragedies. His children will also follow the path of evil.

Self-Wealth – the genius of your mind, and

how it can help you reach your heart’s desires

From the book…

 A Garden

Our minds are a garden.

Certain thoughts, thoughts that shape our personality and character,
dig up and soften our earth, readying it for growth.

Other thoughts, new ideas, or insights into old ones, are the seeds we plant in the earth.

Still other thoughts, encouraging, inspiring thoughts, water and fertilize our seeds, helping them to develop.

And the final product, the flowers and fruits, are the thoughts that lead us to action.

...love your work. Succinct and power packed thoughts that can last a lifetime! Ivan Sacks, Dallas

What first may seem to be meaningful but too transcendental … turns out to be precisely the encouragement I need to move towards…meaning and light. Linda H., Jerusalem

Rav Moshe Feinstein: On The Dangers Of Becoming A Professional Athlete

Rav Moshe Feinstein (Igros Moshe CM 103) was asked if someone may embark on a career as a professional athlete despite the danger involved (this tshuva focused only on the danger and not any other halachic or hashkafa issue).

Rav Moshe said it was permissible to earn a livelihood that involves danger despite the fact one in a few thousand can be seriously injured or even killed. This applies to any hazardous profession where the odds are very low, yet still a danger is present. Moreover says Rav Moshe, it is permissible to do work that may end with you causing the death of another person.

He brings proof from the gemara (Bava Metzia 112) that discusses the wages of an employee, and brings a pasuk that a worker risks his life by climbing high trees to cut the produce. Rav Moshe’s reasons that there is no difference between the issur of killing yourself and killing others. Either way if the chances are very slim, then to earn a living it is permissible. If this wouldn’t be so, says Rav Moshe, then how was the owner able to employee this daredevil worker? However, says Rav Moshe, it is only permissible to employ someone for a dangerous task if the person is aware of the dangers involved and consciously accepts the risks.

Important Note: We try to convey the Tshuva to the best of our ability. We admit that our understanding may not be accurate. One should learn the tshuva to verify the accuracy of our interpretation. Please also understand that this Tshuva may not be the final word on this topic. One should consult a Rav before drawing any conclusions.

Zechiras Miriam

Parshas Chukas – Its All In The Lid

“Talmud Torah K’neged Kulam” the Mitzva of learning is as great as all the others. Lashon Hara on the other hand is Kneged the three most severe aveiros. The pasuk says (19:14) “Zos HaTorah, Adam Ki Yamus BaOhel”; a person can achieve greatness in Torah only if he kills himself over it. The next pasuk says “V’Chol Kli Pasu’ach Asher Ein Tzamid Pasil Alav Tamei Hu”; any vessel that is opened and its lid is not sealed tightly, is impure.

Maybe we can suggest that these two pasukim are related as follows. A person can make himself into a vessel full of torah. However if his “lid” is not sealed tightly and he speaks things that he should not, “tamei hu” he is impure. One can give their life and every ounce of strength for Torah which is the Holiest of all Mitzvos. However an open mouth will designate you as Tamei.

“Zachor Eis Asher Asa Hashem L’Miriam BaDerech B’Tzaischem MiMitzrayim”

The Ramban and other Rishonim count, among the Mitzvos Aseh Min HaTorah, the mitzva of remembering and saying with your mouth each day what Hashem did to Miriam when she spoke about her brother Moshe. The Chofetz Chaim in Shaar Tvunah Perek 12 says that being Mikayem this mitzva can save you from the aveira of Lashon Hara. More than just saying the pasuk, says the Chofetz Chaim, one must think about the incident in order for it to have its intended effect.

Self-Growth - Keep Smiling

A Second Way

By Rabbi Avraham Tzvi Schwartz

We can fight our battles by screaming over telephones, calling our enemies ugly names and cursing them a hundred times in our heart. Alternatively, we can twist our hearts to the heavens, crying for help, for a quick, easy solution to our troubles. Mostly, this second way is the easier and better one, as the verse says, “When the Creator is pleased with a person’s ways, even his enemies make peace with him.”*
