Daily Halacha – 23rd Sivan, 5769
Why Do We Get Up So Late?
In the first Si’if in Shulchan Aruch the Michaber says the we must be “MiOrer HaShachar”, we must wake up before dawn so we wake the dawn and it does not wake us. Why do most people not wake up before dawn today as is written without dispute in Shulchan Aruch?
The Mishna Brura says that if someone is weak by nature or if he knows that waking up early will cause him to fall asleep during davening then it is better for him to get the amount of sleep that he needs. Since today the nature of the world has changed and most people do not wake before dawn, the Pischei Tshuvos says that based on this Mishna Brura, many Tzadikim and Yirei Shamayim do not wake up before dawn. “Ein HaKadosh Baruch Hu Ba B’Trunia Im HaBriyos”, Hashem does not look for excuses to pick on people. However if someone does manage to arrange his schedule in accordance with the Shulchan Aruch, says the Pischei Tshuvos, Ashrei Lo V’Ashrei Chelko!

Tefila – 23rd Sivan, 5769
Rav Shmuel Hominer – Did You Say Mashlich Karcho Kefitim This Morning?
Rav Shmuel Hominer, a Yerushalmi who was niftar thirty years ago today, wrote many classic seforim on tefila, mitzvos, bitachon and other topics. In the introduction to his sefer Olas Tamid on Tefila (See Revach Introduction: Olas Tamid By Rav Shmuel Hominer – Kindle Your Ascent) he talks about the importance of Tefila and especially Peirush HaTefila which is the topic of the sefer.
If you were writing a petition to the King, says Rav Hominer, you would go over each word carefully making sure you chose the best phrases and terminology to politely get your message across. Why when we petition the King of all Kings do speak words that we don’t even know their meaning and never bother to try to find out?
When you come to Shamayim they will ask you, “You davened thousands of Tefilos in your lifetime, tell us please what is the meaning of ‘Mashlich Karcho Kefitim’. What did you have in mind when you said, ‘V’Hu Nisi U’Manos Li Minas Kosi B’YOm Ekra’?” If you don’t know the answer what will you do? You will stand outside in shame and embarrassment. You cannot fathom the humiliation and pain you will endure!

Daily Reminder – 23rd Sivan, 5769
Baba Meir Abuchatzeira: The Key To Zachor Is Shamor
A young married man learning in Kollel once came to Rav Meir Abuchatzeira, the son of the Baba Sali, and a Torah giant in his own right. He cried to him that no matter how much he learns and reviews, it doesn’t remain in his head and he constantly forgets. Baba Meir said to him, “it says Zachor V’Shamor BiDibbur Echad”, remembering and watching are inseparable. If you “watch” your speech and your eyes from unclean things only then can you “remember” the Torah. (B’Yad HaLashon pg. 193)
“Zachor Eis Asher Asa Hashem L’Miriam BaDerech B’Tzaischem MiMitzrayim”
The Ramban and other Rishonim count, among the Mitzvos Aseh Min HaTorah, the mitzva of remembering and saying with your mouth each day what Hashem did to Miriam when she spoke about her brother Moshe. The Chofetz Chaim in Shaar Tvunah Perek 12 says that being Mikayem this mitzva can save you from the aveira of Lashon Hara. More than just saying the pasuk, says the Chofetz Chaim, one must think about the incident in order for it to have its intended effect.
