Our actions are push buttons. Positive actions release blessings into our lives. Negative actions release curses. Pressing the same button continually creates a mountain of blessing or curse. Therefore, we need to press the right button.

The Wisdom of Kabbalah

Body and Soul – Three Methods in the Concepts of Body and Soul

In general, we find that the methods that abound in the world, concerning the concepts of body and soul, are gathered into three:
1)   The Method of Faith
The method of faith argues that all that exists is the spirit, or the soul. They believe that there are spiritual organs separated from one another by quality, called “souls of people,” and that they have an independently existing reality, prior to dressing in a human body. Afterwards, when the body dies, the death does not apply to it, since a spiritual object is a simple object. In their view, death is but a separation of the elements comprising the object.

This is possible with a physical object, comprised of several elements which death disintegrates once more. Yet, the spiritual soul, all of which is a simple object, lacking any complexity, cannot be separated in any way, as this separation would annul its existence. Hence, the soul is eternal and exists forever.

The body, as they understand it, is like a robe, dressing the spiritual object. The spiritual object clothes within it and uses it to manifest its forces: the good qualities and all kinds of concepts. Also, it provides the body with life and motion, and guards it from harm. Thus, the body itself is lifeless, motionless, and contains nothing but dead matter, as we see it once the soul departs it—at the time of death—and all the manifestation of life that we see in human bodies are but manifestations of the soul’s powers.

2)   The Method of Believers in Duality
Proponents of the method of duality believe that the body is a complete creation, standing, living, and nourishing, and safekeeping its existence in all that is required. It does not need any assistance from any spiritual object.

Yet, the body is not considered the whole of man’s essence. Man’s primary essence is the perceiving soul, which is a spiritual object, as in the view of the supporters of the first method.

The difference between these two methods is only in the concept of the body. Following the extensive developments in physiology and psychology, they have found that Providence has provided for all of life’s needs within the machine of the body itself. This, in their view, restricts the role of the soul’s functionality within the body solely to concepts and virtues of the spiritual kind. Thus, while they do believe in both methods, they say that the soul is the reason for the body, meaning that the body is a result, extending from the soul.

3)   The Method of the Deniers
In this method, the spiritual reality is denied, and only the materialistic one is acknowledged. Supporters of this method completely deny the existence of any kind of abstract spiritual object within the body. They have evidently proven that man’s mind, too, is but a product of the body, and they depict the body as an electronic machine with wires that stretch from the body to the brain, and operate by encounters with external things.

Also, they send their sensations of pain or pleasure to the brain, and the brain instructs the organ what to do. Everything is run by wires and cords built for this task. They move the organ away from sources of pain and towards sources of pleasure. Thus, they clarify all of one’s conclusions from life’s events.

Also, what we feel as concepts and rationalities within our minds are but images of corporeal occurrences within the body. And man’s pre-eminence over all other animals is that our minds are developed to such an extent that all the body’s events are depicted in our brains as images that we experience as concepts and rationalities.

Thus, the mind and all its deductions are but products that extend from the events of the body. In addition, there are proponents of the second method who completely agree with this one, but add the spiritual, eternal object to it, called “the soul that dresses within the machine of the body. This soul is man’s essence, and the machine of the body is but its clothing. Thus, I have laid out in general terms all that human science has thus far contrived in the concepts of “body” and “soul.”

Today 11th Sivan, 5769 – “Little Mitzvos”

Little Mitzvos Org

You may think, how does one little Mitzvo help . . .

Our times are calling out to us to do Teshuva, but it’s too hard for us to change our lives. Even when we try, we end up reverting back to nothing, everything as was. We MUST show HaShem that we are seeing the signs and that it means something to us.

In this way, when HaShem asks what did we did, we can reply “I took this on…”

You must not consider this “Little Mitzvos” as a replacement for the Shulchan Oruch – you must continue learning Halochos via mainstream Seforim and with Shiurim.

ON SELF-NEGATION

R’ Pinchas said: “Great miracles can be performed for a man who truly considers himslf nothing [ayin]. For our Father Abraham, when he went to do battle with kings (Genesis 14), did not rely upon miracles. Rather, he went with sword and buckler, for he was on the level of ayin, and the Holy One performed miracles for him and took rocks [hardened soil] which He cast upon them, and so he conquered them. Therefore, it is stated of Nahum Ish Gam-zu that he took of the dust of Father Abraham (Ta’anit 21a), i.e., the quality of ayin which is symbolized by dust, for dust represents the most inferior level [of humility]. Therefore was that miracle performed for him. A man who is on the level of ayin is worthy of having the Shekhinah rest upon him. For of the Holy One we know that the whole world is full of His glory (Isaiah 6:3); therefore, when man considers himself to be ‘something,’ G-d is not within him”.*

THE PURPOSE OF LIFE – Israel ’s destiny

The Israelite man was created to have dominion over the angels, and this is Israel ’s ultimate destiny. Each one must make certain that he attains his destiny and rules over the angels.

But you must guard yourself carefully to ensure that you have the strength to stand firm in this dominion and not let the ministering angels cast you down out of jealousy. The way to stand firm is by binding yourself to the souls of Israel . This is accomplished by binding yourself to the true leaders of Israel , the Tzaddikim.

Tikun Habris – 11th Sivan, 5769

True Kabbalah org

Tikun Habris is the most important topic to discuss in this low generation, and no one is dealing with it.

If you are Jewish then you are part of the Holy nation. Have mercy on your holy soul and stop blemishing it with the sin of wasting seed. Take heed of what the kabbalah says and stop committing this sin of wasting seed.

The Sin of Wasting Seed

At the first gate stands the angel ASTRKH, under his command are hundreds of thousands of deputies. They are appointed on all those who have wasted seed, who do not get to see the shichinah. These people defiled themselves in this world, therefore after death they are gathered by these angels who impose judgment upon them.

A Wonderous Segulah to rectify oneself and to rectify Nefesh Ruach and Neshama. Culled from the Holy ARIZALs works to be said every day after prayers. Tikun Mem Ches from the Tikunei Zohar has the Segulah to bring that which is precious and holy out of what has fallen into spiritual darkness and to rectify the sins related to the Bris Kodesh. Zechiras Miriam

What Is Your Cut Of The Deal?

The Chofetz Chaim says that if you speak or her Lashon Hara you are oveir “Lifnei Iveir”, causing another person to do an aveira. If you are the one speaking Lashon Hara then you are oveir for each person listening since your are entangling each and every one in your web of sin.

If you are the listener then it depends. If you are the only one present, you are certainly oveir since without you he would have no one to peddle his gossip to. If others are listening as well, then if you were there first you are the one that helped him begin so you are oveir.

If you are there in a group then the Chofetz Chaim is unsure. Since the person speaking has an aveira for each person listening, you may be oveir because your listening earns your friend an additional aveira. Or do we say that since your listening has no impact on his ramblings you are not responsible for his behavior?

“Zachor Eis Asher Asa Hashem L’Miriam BaDerech B’Tzaischem MiMitzrayim”

The Ramban and other Rishonim count, among the Mitzvos Aseh Min HaTorah, the mitzva of remembering and saying with your mouth each day what Hashem did to Miriam when she spoke about her brother Moshe. The Chofetz Chaim in Shaar Tvunah Perek 12 says that being Mikayem this mitzva can save you from the aveira of Lashon Hara. More than just saying the pasuk, says the Chofetz Chaim, one must think about the incident in order for it to have its intended effect.

DAILY MITZVAH (Maimonides): 10th Sivan, 5769

DAILY MITZVAH (Maimonides): 10th Sivan, 5769

Chabad org

By Malka Touger

Negative Commandment 10
You shall not seek information about idol-worship

Leviticus 19:4 “Do not turn to idols

This prohibition warns us not to even attempt to understand what idol-worshipers do, even if we are only curious about it and never intend to practice it ourselves.

The Torah understands that sometimes even honest curiosity can be dangerous, just like it was for Avi…

Avi lives in a small town in Israel and his father is often called for military service in the army.

Once, on a day’s leave from his army base, Avi’s father came home with his gun.

Avi stared at the gun curiously and begged his father to let him hold it.

“Please, Daddy,” pleaded Avi, “just show me how it works.” “No, Avi, you must never play with a gun!”, his father said. “But I won’t use it” argued Avi. “I only want to look at it and hold it!”

His father refused and put the rifle away so Avi could not get to it. Avi’s father knew that curiosity could lead to an accident.

So too, the Torah does not want us to practice any type of idol-worship.

It knows that curiosity might lead to other things.

Therefore, we are forbidden to even ask about any type of idol-worship or its practices.

Negative Commandment 47
You shall not believe in ideas that oppose the Torah.

Numbers 15:39 “And that you seek not after your own heart and your own eyes

Benny tried to do his best all month.

He studied at school, did his chores at home and listened to his parents.

Benny’s mother noticed how hard her son was trying and decided that he deserved a present.

“You know, Benny,” she said, “you have made me very proud of you. Tomorrow we’ll go to the toy store and you can pick out anything you want!”

Benny was overjoyed, but the next day when they arrived at the store, he walked up and down the isles frowning.

“What’s wrong, Benny?”, his mother asked.

“There are so many toys I’d like to have and so much to choose from,” Benny answered with a sigh. “I know we can’t buy them all, but it’s so hard to pick just one from all these toys!”

“You’re right, Benny,” his mother answered, “but I think I have a solution to your problem. We will set limits to which toy you can pick.”

“First, you can’t spend more than twelve dollars. Second, try to pick something you can share with other children. Third, choose a game that you won’t get tired of quickly.”

“Thanks, Mom!”, exclaimed Benny. “You’ve given me some good ideas. I’ll use those rules and it should be easier to pick just the toy I want.”

Like those rows and rows of toys in the store, there are many things that we see and experience that attract us.

The world offers so many temptations that it may seem impossible to decide what is the right way to think, eat, dress, behave, and act.

The Torah and its Mitzvot set guidelines for us to follow, and show us the path we should choose. The Mitzvot point us in the right direction so that we may fulfill the will of HaShem.

This Negative Mitzvah cautions us to use the guidelines that are in the Torah and follow the Mitzvot so that we should not just accept anything that comes our way.

We must be extremely careful and attempt to always choose and act in a manner that befits a Torah life-style.

Negative Commandment 60
You shall not curse G-d

Exodus 22:27 “Do not curse G-d”

This Negative Mitzvah is often called “Birkat HaShem,” which literally means “blessing HaShem.”

We do not even want to call this terrible offense by it’s real name – so the opposite term is used.

We are forbidden to curse HaShem.

This Negative Mitzvah also prohibits one from cursing judges.

We must honor and respect judges and realize that their decisions help us fulfill the Torah and Mitzvot.

Negative Commandment 6
You shall not worship idols with any other service

Exodus 20:5 “Do not worship them

We are forbidden to worship idols with any other form of service that was not mentioned in Negative Mitzvah 5.

Negative Commandment 5
You shall not bow down to nor worship idols with any services that are used to honor G-d

Exodus 20:5 “Do not bow down to them

We are forbidden to bow down to idols, offer sacrifices, burn incense, or pour wine or other liquid offerings in worship of idols.

Negative Commandment 2
You shall not make idols

Exodus 20:4 “Do not make any carved idols for yourself

We are not allowed to make idols, carve statues, draw pictures or create any other forms or shapes that will be used for idol- worship.

Negative Commandment 3
You shall not make idols for another person

Leviticus 19:4 “Do not make gods out of metal, for yourselves”

We are forbidden to make idols, even when that idol will be used by another person, or by a non-Jew.

Negative Commandment 4
You shall not make statues of animals or men even if they are not made for idol-worship

Exodus 20:20 “Do not make with Me gods of silver, neither shall you make for yourselves gods of gold

We are forbidden to make statues of animals or men because other people may consider them to be idols.

Making these statues is forbidden even if the person who makes these statues did not intend them to be used for idol worship.

Negative Commandment 15
You shall not urge other people to worship idols

Exodus 23:13 “Neither let it be heard out of your mouth

On a hot summer day a group of boys huddled around the fire hydrant down the block.

One boy urged his friends to unscrew the tap.

He described the fun they would have enjoying the refreshing rush of cool water.

He did not dare unscrew the tap himself, but rather, tried to convince others to do it.

The Torah forbids us to suggest to other people that they worship idols even if we do not intend to worship idols ourselves.

A person who disobeys this prohibition is called a “Madiach”

Positive Commandment 186
Dealing with a City of Idol-Worshipers

Deuteronomy 13:17 “And burn the city with fire

If it is reported that some non-believers convinced most of the people of their city to worship idols, that city must be punished, but only after careful investigation.

If, in fact, the people have involved themselves in idol worship, the Torah commands us to kill all the idol-worshipers and totally destroy that city.

Negative Commandment 23
You shall not rebuild the Apostate city

Deuteronomy 13:17 “It shall remain a ruin forever, it shall not be built again

A city whose people had been led astray and worshipped idols, is called a “Nidachat City,” an “apostate city.”

The Torah teaches us what to do with such a city (See positive Mitzvah 186).

First, a detailed investigation must be made in order to declare it “Nidachat.”

If the charge is proven to be true, then the city must be destroyed.

This Negative Mitzvah prohibits us from ever rebuilding this “Nidachat” city again.

Negative Commandment 24
You shall not benefit from any object or property from the Apostate city

Deuteronomy 13:18 “Let nothing that has been condemned to destruction remain in your hand

We are forbidden to use or benefit from any item that belonged to the Nidachat city, (see above, Negative Mitzvah 23).
